10% Campaign
|
The 10% Campaign is a project of the Center For Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS). The campaign encourages you to spend 10% of your existing food dollars to support North Carolina food producers, businesses and communities. Why 10%? In North Carolina, we spend $35 billion on food every year. If we spend 10% of our food dollars on local product, we can infuse over $3.5 billion into the local economy. As avid supporters of the Durham Farmers' Market, you already know the many advantages to shopping locally. So, why join the campaign? It will re-affirm your commitment to shopping locally and it sends a strong message to policy makers about the importance of local foods! For more information visit: www.nc10percent.com |

We are kicking off the 2017 Wednesday Market season with B.O.G.O. bee totes and a tote decoration station! Come by Durham Central Park from 3-6 PM to meet some of our new vendors and fill your tote bags with the best local food around. The suggested donation for one of our bee totes is $5, and all the proceeds go to funding our Double Bucks program. We will have paint, fabric markers, & foam stickers to get creative with at the tote decoration station. Thank you Burt's Bees Greater Good Foundation for providing us with these wonderful totes that truly give back to the community!

Chapel Hill Creamery
Spring is here and we're back for Wednesday with cheese and mea!. Our Carolina Moon is ripe and ready to serve for a great appetizer or as a side to a big salad or soup. It is our version of Camembert with a smooth texture and rich flavor from our Jersey milk. We will also have Dairyland Farmers cheese
and Pheta. The Dairyland Farmers is a fresh, unaged cheese that is moist and a little tart. Kids of all ages like this cheese. It makes a great snack with hot pepper jelly, or melt it in some scrambled eggs or tacos. Pheta is less moist and saltier; add it to salads, tabouli or pizza. All our cheeses are made with the milk from our Jersey cows who are grazing on fresh spring grass. We'll also have mild and Hot dinner sausages plus two kinds of Breakfast sausage. Bring a cooler, come taste our cheese, and pick up our recipe for Chorizo and Dairyland Farmers Tacos. Bon Appetit.
