Why Should We Save Coastal Louisiana?

Documenting why our nation must restore and protect coastal Louisiana one reason at a time.

As we watch the initial reports from the northeast and midatlantic, our hearts are heavy at the loss of life and the destruction that Hurricane Sandy has brought thus far and it is with renewed conviction that we understand that we must all pull together to meet the challenges we face as a nation. We hope that everyone remains safe. We know the coming days, weeks and months will be difficult for those impacted by this storm, but if we can all work together as a united nation, there is nothing that we cannot overcome.

Peace and blessings to all. We hope a little Halloween humor can brighten the day.

Why Should We Save Coastal Louisiana? Waterlife Museum Exhibit Closing Nov. 1

You've still got time (but not much) to see Bayou Grace's photo project exhibit, which is currently on display at the Bayou Terrebonne Waterlife Museum.  Special thanks to the Houma Regional Arts Council for helping to get our WHYs on the walls of the Waterlife Museum.  We'll keep you posted about the next stop for this traveling exhibit. It could even be on a wall near you.

Contact us at 985-594-5350 or email us at photoproject@bayougrace.org if you'd like to help organize a showing of this exhibit documenting a diverse array of reasons why people think it's important to restore and protect the coast.

CPRA Nonstructural Survey

The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA) and the Louisiana Legislature have recently approved the 2012 Coastal Master Plan, which will serve as the state's comprehensive framework for future coastal protection and restoration efforts. One of the key next steps will be to develop a comprehensive flood risk reduction and community resiliency program. (For more details on this program, please see "Appendix F2 "Nonstructural Implementation Strategy").

The CPRA would like to gain feedback from stakeholder groups who are working in coastal Louisiana on related issues such as flood risk reduction, nonstructural protection, hazard mitigation, insurance/building codes, flood adaptive architecture, urban design, and community resiliency. This survey will help them better understand the many diverse perspectives stakeholders hold on effective policies, physical and programmatic measures, and challenges related to the development of a nonstructural program.

If you would like to fill out the brief 3-5 minute survey, please click on the link below:

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/cpra-ns-survey

They are hoping to collaborate with as many of Louisiana's local stakeholder groups as possible as they develop CPRA's nonstructural program.
