Welcome CSA Members!
This week marks the official start to the CSA farm season.  It's been a typical CNY spring with plenty of rain, some periods of dry, and then more rain.   It was the second warmest May on record for many locations in CNY, and here on the farm the crops sure loved it.   Your farmers also loved it too.  You'll recall we got started back on April First spreading organic compost, plowing up land, disking the fields, shaping beds and planting.  The month of April was wet, but we managed to get through most of our scheduled field work and stay on track.  In early May the rains picked up again and we wondered for a few days if we would ever see the sunshine.  The crew has been hard at work assissting with many of the day to day tasks that go along with keeping a farm running smoothly. Everyone has been doing an outstanding job putting in long hours and getting through some tough jobs faster than expected. The apprentices have done an exceptional job picking up new farm tasks quickly and being consistent with their work, as well as improving their farmers' tan.

May is by far one of the craziest months on the farm because so much needs to be done efficiently and correctly in order for us to have a beautiful harvest come the first week of June.  Back on May 1st there is no food, just a plan, tons of weeds and hundreds of hours of work laid out in front of us like an endless highway.  In May we are gruesome dirty farmers drinking coffee, we often smell foul, but in an organic way.  We eat way too many doughnuts, but only because we know that starting today we will be on a steady veg diet.  May comes and goes quickly for us despite the work and all we really hope for is that by June we'll have something to show for all our work.  Needless to say we are very excited to start bringing in the harvest!  We hope that you'll enjoy the produce as much as we enjoyed growing it for you.

What's In The Share
The year's first harvest will be one our best first harvests.   This week's share will inlcude: Spinach, tender head lettuce, lettuce mix or arugula, radishes, beet greens, baby turnips, bunched Asian greens and red Russian kale.  Many more crops on the way but this is a great start.

For those of you who pick up at the farm you'll be able to use our mix and match system when you select your share.

For those of you who have signed up for our delivered box share you'll receive a well rounded representation of what's in on the farm.  If something doesn't appear on a given week chances are it will be coming in the following week's share.

Delivered Box Shares
This Thursday June, 7th will be the first distribution for our delivered CSA box shares.  Please note that the wax vegetable boxes your produce will arrive in are expensive and also reusable.  Please return your box each week to your drop off site so that we may conserve resources and cut back on waste generated by the farm.

Many of the pick your own crops have already been planted and are doing well in the field.  We are still a few weeks off until we will be eating our first peas, beans and strawberries.  We will keep you updated each week.
