Back to School countdown! First day of school is on Monday, 8/8/16. The new school day is from 7:40-2:20 to allow 15 extra minutes for math instruction. STUDENTS ARE LATE AT 7:40.

Briarlake Beaver Boost
BRIARLAKE BEAVER BOOST!!!



WHAT: The Beaver Boost is the PTA's ONLY annual fundraising effort. 100% of the money raised stays with the school. Our goal is to raise $20,000 by the Fall Festival in October.

Thanks to your generous donations, we have already raised $6,158!

WHY: The Beaver Boost directly supports the following and much, much more:

 Academic & Cultural Enrichment Programs

 Teacher Start-Up Funds

 Teacher Training & Gifted Certification

 Buildings & Grounds Improvements

 Communication

HOW: The Beaver Boost accepts donations:

The suggested donation is $125 per family.

Donations of ≥ $300 are entered in a raffle for an iPad!

Classroom challenge: all classes that have 100% participation in the Boost will win a pizza  party with Bucky the Beaver!

Whether you donate $1 or $300, we are aiming for 100% participation from Briarlake families  and teachers to help make Briarlake a better school. Your donation is tax deductible (tax ID #58-6072359).

Parent Welcome Coffee
First Day of School, Monday 8/8/16:  from 7:40 to 8:40 am

After you drop your little ones off in their new classrooms on the first day of school, give a great big sigh of relief, then head to the cafeteria to celebrate (or cry!) with us.  We'll have coffee, juice, and tissues if you need them! Start the school year off right by taking a moment to connect with some of your new and returning Briarlake parents. We hope to see you there!
 
First Day of School
The first day of school is here! Please see some important information and tips to make the first day a success: 
School starts at 7:40 a.m. 
  • Be on time! Earliest drop off is 7 a.m. 
  • Please bring school supplies from lists located on the PTA website on the first day if you did not bring them to Open House.
  • Parents can walk their children down to their classroom on the first day, and then join parents in the cafeteria for the parent coffee from 7:40-8:40 a.m.
School ends at 2:20 p.m
  • In carpool, please display name signs until your child is safely in your car. Using a "skirt/pant" hanger on the mirror of the car is a great idea.  
Car pool information
  • Please keep our children and families safe by following the car pool instructions (see car pool information in red side bar) 
  • No left turns into school off Briarlake Rd. 
  • Please do not use cell phones during car pool.
Fall Festival Team Members Needed
If you are looking to be more involved in your child's school, consider a position on the Briarlake PTA Fall Festival Team.  Our Fall Festival is our most popular community building event. We are looking for people to join the teams below:

1. Miscellaneous - A1 inflatables (snow cones, popcorn, dunk tank, all inflatables); Fire Truck; Balloon Artists; Georgia Bubble Man - Make phone calls to the vendors we've used the past several years

2. Tickets/Ticket Sales - Help prepare and distribute ticket purchases

3. Kids Crafts/Kids Games/Toddler Area - Confirm that we have all the crafts and games from previous years. Set out the crafts and games the morning of the Fall Festival

4. Indoor Crafters & Craft Fair - Contact crafters from previous Fall Festivals and invite them to the 2016 Fall Festival

5. Pumpkin Patch - Order pumpkins and painting supplies. Set them out the day of

6. STEM Activities - Organize a few STEM activities in the gym during the Fall Festival

7. Food Vendors (food trucks) & Beverage sales - Contact and coordinate last year's vendors

8. Class Auction (room parent) - Work with the Room Parent Coordinator to solicit class auction items. Set out auction items the day of

9. Grounds (leaf blowing; ordering pine straw) - blow leafs from the main drives the week before the Fall Festival. Order pine straw (paid for by PTA)

10. Signs - Make and put up signs the day of 

11. Logistics/Venue/Set-Up/Clean-Up (tables, chairs, garbage, recycling, borrowing tents, parking) - Coordinate getting tables, chairs, etc. from Briarlake school. Coordinate set up and clean up (with the help of many volunteeers)
To Bring or Buy? 
Breakfast is $1.40 and Lunch is $2.50.  Cash, check, or money order is accepted OR you can try the new automated system.

MySchoolBucks - allows parents to add money to their children's account using a credit or debit card. Once an account is established, parents can check balances and fund their children's accounts online via their secure website. It also sends reminders when the balance is getting low.

Summer Academic Challenge Due Friday, 8/12
Our Principal, PTA, and School Council would like to make sure our Briarlake students keep up their math and science skills over the summer break.

We are asking that students do some form of math or science (their choice) for an average of 1 hour per week, with the goal of 10 hours (600 minutes) of math or science over the entire Summer. You  only needed to spend 15 minutes a day for 4 days a week to get in your 1 hour of math or science each week.. Download the form listed below to track hours.

  • Those children that complete the STEM challenge (and have their parents sign the form and return it by Friday, August, 12th), will be recognized at the start of the new school year. The kids will receive a Certificate and have their names posted on the Awards Bulletin Board in the cafeteria.

We All Scream for Ice Cream
Who doesn't like a little ice cream on a warm summer evening? Bring your family to Briarlake on  Tuesday, August 16th  from 6:00-7:15pm and enjoy an ice cream courtesy of the Briarlake PTA.

Family Braves Game, Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1:00PM 
Georgia PTA and the Atlanta Braves are teaming up once again to celebrate Family Day on Sunday, September 11, 2016 for a 1:30 p.m. ballgame against the New York Mets.  Tickets are $10 each and support Briarlake's PTA and the Georgia PTA. 
 
Arrive early - Georgia PTA families will have the opportunity to walk the bases before the game starts.  Parade lineup begins at  12:00 p.m. at the Hank AaronRamp-across from aisle 129. Game starts at  1:30pm. Wear your spirit wear and REPRESENT Briarlake.

Carpool ends at 2:50pm. If parents come to pick up children after 2:50 pm, please come inside the front office to sign out children on the computer.
