WEEK 4 SOFTBALL RANKINGS

Bulldogs stake claim on Class AAAAAAA

No. 2 Mill Creek falls from its perch atop Class AAAAAAA as North Gwinnett takes over at No. 1 following a 5-4 home win against the Hawks in nine innings. The rest of the poll doesn't see much movement aside from Cherokee dropping out. The Warriors were shutout 4-0 by No. 4 Lassiter. Lowndes replaces Cherokee at No. 10.
The gauntlet of Region 6-AAAAAA is starting to wear on annual powers. Allatoona continues its slide out of the rankings following their second consecutive loss to No. 4 Dalton, 3-2. Harrison also tumbles out at 7-6 overall and 5-3 in region play. Coach Chance Cain's No. 3 ranked Creekview Grizzlies pace the field at 8-0 in the region. Freshman Emily Wilkie is raking at .571 with a team-best 19 RBIs and 2 homers. On the mound, sophomore Ashton Maloney has pitched to contact and recorded 7-1 record with a 1.50 ERA. Replacing the aforementioned Allatoona Buccaneers and Harrison Hoyas are No. 9 Richmond Hill and No. 10 Greenbrier. No. 8 Mundy's Mill continues its dominance, allowing just one run the entire season at 11-0.
It looks like a three horse race in Class AAAAA with No. 1 Buford, No. 2 Walnut Grove and No. 3 Locust Grove combining for a 33-3 record. No. 10 Thomas County Central falls six spots following 7-6 loss to newly ranked No. 9 Harris County who is now 5-1. Thomas County Central's record sits at 6-5. Harris County has a date with AAAA No. 2 Northside-Columbus today.
No. 1 Chapel Hill defeated No. 10 Cedartown 3-1 in a Class AAAA showdown. Even with the loss the Bulldogs have played well this season and make an appearance in the top ten following an 8-4 start. Chestatee sinks out of the rankings with two more losses. The War Eagles are now 13-3 but 1-3 in region after their second loss to No. 3 Marist, 8-0 and a 3-0 loss to Blessed Trinity, who is starting to play better ball. No. 9 Cairo debuts in the top ten following a 12-1 start. They test their record against No. 7 Columbus tonight.
No. 1 Calhoun is outrunning the competition in AAA. The Yellow Jackets advanced to 18-1 with a 13-1 win over Adairsville this week. Torri Gaddis allowed one hit while Ashlyn Barnes supplied the power with a homerun. No. 3 Franklin County jumps a spot thanks to a 6-0 shutout of No. 5 East Jackson. Westminster is sneaking up the poll at No. 8. The Wildcats are 6-1 and look very dangerous. Worth County drops out at 6-4 to make room for Westminster.
Just like in Class AAAAA, three teams stand above the rest in AA. No. 1 Vidalia (14-0), No. 2 Rockmart (16-1) and No. 3 Harlem (9-1) are feasting on competition. Rockmart crushed No. 8 Pepperell 14-0 while Harlem drilled No. 10 Screven County 16-1. No. 5 Dodge County rises two spots after beating No. 6 Bleckley County 4-3.
No. 1 Wesleyan takes over the top spot in its new home, Class A-Private. Stratford Academy has slipped to No. 3 after suffering their first loss of the season, a 12-3 drubbing at the hands of No. 2 Tattnall Square Academy. The bottom of the poll gets shaken up with ELCA and Hebron Christian exiting and No. 8 Providence Christian and No. 9 Mt. Paran entering.
Class A-Public powers No. 1 Gordon Lee and No. 2 Georgia Military flexed their muscle. Gordon Lee pounded No. 10 Trion 11-0 while GMC edged No. 3 Glascock County 6-1. Schley County debuts at No. 6 thanks to a 10-4 record and a perfect 8-0 start in region play. They are riding a 7-game winning streak.
