April and Tim leave for Wyoming on Thursday:

We are going to attempt to squeeze in a trip to Wyoming this week!  I have a family reunion that I have not been to for 8 years and Tim needs to meet my father.  So, off we go.  I will do my best to offer customer support from the road, but we may have to ask for your patience until we get back.

Upcoming veggie projection:

Coming soon to a CSA box near you...Expect to see beans, carrots, fennel, cabbage, cucumbers, basil, parsley, and cauliflower in the upcoming harvests. Continue to look for things like broccoli, kale, and summer squash. And although it will still be a bit, we thought you'd like to know that our sweet corn is just beginning to tassel. If all goes well some or all of these items will make there way into the future CSA boxes.

Bunches of Broccoli!

Broccoli's roots reach back to Italy where the cabbage was first cultivated in ancient Rome. Broccoli's name can be traced back to the Latin brachium, meaning "branch" or "arm." Its color can range from dark green to a purplish-green depending on the variety, but the most popular in the US is the Italian green or Calabrese, named after the Italian province where it originated. One cup of cooked broccoli contains almost 250% of the daily recommended Vitamin K, 135% of recommended Vitamin C, and 7.4% recommended protein. Broccoli is best stored in the fridge unwashed and in a plastic bag with all excess air removed.

The Dirt on the Farm: For the Love of Greens!

This time of year, even I am starting to feel like I could use a break from the greens, so I get really excited to use broccoli, sweet onions, squash, and beets.  But the greens have become an active part of my life and an integral part of my "let food be your medicine" lifestyle.
