WEEK 5 SOFTBALL RANKINGS

Surging Trojans climb in Class AAAAAAA

Lassiter rises to No. 2 in Class AAAAAAA after No. 3 Mill Creek and No. 6 Kennesaw Mountain slide. Lassiter defeated Kennesaw Mountain 5-4 in nine innings and the Mustangs also dropped a 1-0 decision to Allatoona. No. 5 Parkview is starting to find its stride, picking up a 5-2 win over Class A-Private No. 1 Wesleyan, the Wolves' only loss of the season. Etowah climbs two spots to No. 7, right ahead of No. 8 Lambert after beating the Longhorns 9-1.
Class AAAAAA No. 1 Cambridge let AAAAAAA taste its dominance as the Bears knocked off No. 3 Mill Creek 4-2. No. 2 Creekview has now won 10-straight games with wins over Allatoona (5-4) and No. 4 River Ridge (9-3). Richmond Hill drops out and is replaced by No. 10 Effingham County.
Samantha Thomas broke the school record for home runs in a career for Class AAAAA No. 1 Buford in their 8-0 win over Flowery Branch. Thomas blasted two homers to give her 31 over her illustrious career. The Wolves took a bite out of top competition as well last week, shutting out No. 2 Walnut Grove 4-0. New to the No. 3 position is Harris County who leaps over the field in part to their impressive wins over former Class AAAA No. 1 Chapel Hill (6-1, 8-1), AAA No. 5 Franklin County (8-5) and AA No. 3 Harlem (10-9).
In Class AAAA, Chapel Hill plummets to No. 5 after being swept by Harris County and losing to Class A-Public No. 1 Gordon Lee 5-0. Northside-Columbus regains its place atop the poll and proved its mettle by stopping Harris County 6-3. Marist rises to No. 2, but the War Eagles did suffer a 1-0 loss against A-Private No. 1 Wesleyan. No. 10 Jefferson crashes the poll in place of Cairo who lost to No. 9 Columbus 4-0 and No. 1 Northside, 6-0.
Westminster continues its rise up the Class AAA poll and now sits at No. 3 after Franklin County, Cook, Brantley County and Ringgold all slide. Along with Westminster, No. 6 Pike County is a hot riser. The Pirates are now 15-4 and currently riding a 7-game winning streak highlighted by a 3-0 shutout of Class A-Private No. 5 Strong Rock Christian. Replacing Sonoraville and Ringgold in the top ten are No. 9 Lovett (7-2) and No. 10 Southeast Bulloch (9-1).
New to the Class AA picture is Jeff Davis and Bacon County. No. 10 Bacon County scored a win over Cook 10-9 and sits at 12-4 overall while No. 9 Jeff Davis is 14-2 with 13-straight wins including a 2-1 win over Wayne County and a 5-3 victory against Bacon County.
Class A-Private No. 1 Wesleyan dropped its first game of the year to Parkview, but still holds onto the top spot. No. 2 First Presbyterian Day is making noise at 13-3. The Vikings went on the road and beat No. 3 Tattnall Square Academy 2-1 and No. 4 Stratford Academy 10-2. At the bottom of the rankings, No. 10 Galloway debuts in favor of Calvary Day who slides to 7-7 overall.
Miller County jumps from No. 9 to No. 5 in Class A-Public following their 12-5 win over No. 7 Baconton Charter. Marion County cracks the poll at No. 10. The Eagles are off to a 15-2 start.
