Mistakes can happen on our end as well as yours and that sheet tells you what we sent. Beans, Beans the Magical Fruit

Green or snap beans, formerly known as string beans for the string that ran down the length of the pod and has since been bred out of the plant, are in season from summer to early fall. Green beans hale from the genus and species Phaseolus vulgaris; which, along with pinto, black, kidney, and other beans are known as "common beans." These beans originated in Peru and were brought to Europe and the rest of the world by Spanish and Portuguese traders in the 16th century. Store unwashed in plastic bag in fridge. To freeze, steam beans for 2-3 minutes, cool completely, and store in freezer bags. For the healthiest bean preparation, steam whole beans for 5 minutes. 1 cup contains significant amounts of Vitamin K, manganese, Vitamin C, and fiber.

nullSome members will get our green beans and some will get our heirloom Dragon Tongue variety, which is fantastic prepared any way that you use your green beans, but most often enjoyed raw.

FAQ's

What's up with the fruit? How do I order, why is it in large sizes, can my friends get it?

Every year we bring in fresh fruit from various places.  We offer both conventional and organic options depending upon what is available to us. Expect to see, cherries, blueberries, peaches, apples, and pears. This year, we have created an order form for folks to place their orders.  Because it it brand new, you will see it evolve as the season continues.  But, in theory, it will be an effective way for us to collect fruit orders from CSA members and non-members. We will be sending invoices to folks to prompt online payment for the orders. (FYI, invoices are not automatically generated, so it might take us a day to get it to you). This brings us the money right away, so that we can afford to pay for such large fruit orders.  Being we don't have the staff to manage it, we do not package small orders of fruit,  but encourage folks to find friends and family that might want to co purchase one of the large boxes. Fruit also freezes really well. If you or someone you know is interested in purchasing fruit, you will find links and information about what is currently available on our website. Folks that might not be getting our emails, can go to the website to request to be put on our e-newsletter list so that they can get notifications during the fruit season.

The Dirt on the Farm: Midsummer's Dirt

We are nearing mid summer and already into week 7 of the CSA season. The year just seems to be flying by. Our staff has settled into a rhythm and the members are starting to get a feel for their pick up sights.  Fruit season is upon us and our first delivery of cherries will be delivered this week.  Here in the office we are starting to get the hang of the new technology that is being used to manage all of the member accounts. We are hard at work adapting and creating changes in our systems so that we can continue to offer the abundance and support that our members have come to expect. But, just as we start to get used to things, the seasons begin to shift and we have to open ourselves to something new. Click here to READ MORE
