Park Shore Week Five 2013
Park Shore Country Day Camp Newsletter
A Message from Bob & Chuck

Dear Park Shore Parents,

The 2013 summer season has been filled with fun and excitement with much more in store for all of our campers.  Now is the time we traditionally send home our Amazing Rates (our lowest camp rates) for next summer.  We are very happy to announce that credit cards are now being accepted at Park Shore.  In an attempt to better serve our Park Shore families we will accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.  Please look for our credit card authorization form(s) that will be included in your enrollment package.  They need to be completed and returned with your enrollment forms if you chose to use your credit card.  In addition, we also offer the Park Shore Payment Plan and have enclosed that form as well.  All that is necessary to take advantage of our lowest rates at this time is to complete an enrollment form for each camper and include a $200 deposit for each camper.

It remains our sincere pleasure having you as part of our Park Shore family and look forward to another great summer filled with fun and excitement during our 2014 summer season.  This will prove to be an awesome experience for all since we will be celebrating our 55th Anniversary together.

We still have another action packed 4 weeks of camp to enjoy.  All of our campers are thoroughly enjoying themselves.  It is a pleasure observing the many friendships that were started and the tremendous skill development that took place.

We wish all of our July campers a wonderful summer and look forward to reuniting next summer.

Sincerely,

Bob & Chuck

Special Events News from Alisa

Dear Park Shore Parents and Campers,

I now believe the quote "Time flies when you are having fun". The 4th week of camp has come to an end and yet it seems like just yesterday the Park Shore buses were rolling in to drop off our friends so we could start the first day of camp. We have all had an AMAZING 4 weeks and built so many memories that will last a life time!!!! This week was Carnival Week and we welcomed ALL to our "Festival Of Fun". The whole week was action packed. We started off with Crazy Hat Day.  This week we even had our very own carnival with an exciting arcade filled with games, activities, snacks, and action packed Dance party with our very own DJ. We shared laughs at the Dunk Tank, watching many of our friends get dunked!  Friday, we were visited by Steve Max, (the Simon Sez Master) a Park Shore favorite!!  What a GREAT week!

Our July campers went home with many happy memories and we look forward to seeing them again next summer. A big WELCOME to our August campers! Your summer fun starts by going where fun and surprises are around every corner.

On Monday, July 29th, we begin our week with a fantastic special event, "Human Tic Tac Toe." This Tic Tac Toe marathon will continue throughout this week. When we are left with two groups from each division, the Finals begin. Who will be the winner from the Junior Division and who will be the winner from the Senior Division?

On Wednesday, July 30th, smile and say cheese because August campers, this is the day your picture will be taken. Please wear your Park Shore tee shirt and bring your smiles.

On Friday, August 2nd , our Senior Campers will be performing their skit songs for our campers, guaranteed to be a special treat.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday,

Science Academy News from Julian

"Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. The important thing is to not stop questioning."             - Albert Einstein

Can we really be halfway through the summer at the Science Academy?  Our robots are using sensors to navigate our new maze.  They're also preparing for our next challenge: battling SumoBots.  We've planted new seeds in our garden.  And in Physical Science we explored action-reaction force pairs using a student made hovercraft.  We also started a new engineering project which consists of building bridges.

We're planning our first dissection, as we examine adaptations in Life Science.  In Physical science we'll tackle the work-energy relationship, including simple machines. We're also planning to design ultra light racing cars, powered by the wind.

Our young scientists continue to absorb all the information given to them.  It remains our sincere pleasure observing how their curiosity and problem solving skills have grown.  We look forward to many more exciting and thought provoking science experiments.

News From Boot Camp
"Park Shore Boot Camp" is a spin-off of the great success of the Excel Program for the campers of Park Shore.

When we were presented with the idea of working with such a well known camp as Park Shore, we jumped right on it.  We are located right in the heart of Commack, NY and are practically neighbors to Park Shore and what better way to get a head start against obesity than taking it right to the campers as part of their day camp schedule.

We (LI Fitness) work with the Junior groups at Park Shore and are the introductory step to the already established Excel Program. Mike and myself train the campers themselves and put them through an obstacle course style boot camp workout, sprinkled with bouts of push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. The campers get an amazing workout that seems more like play.  We also try to teach healthy eating habits by promoting vegetables and fruits as opposed to candy and chips. We have only been a part of Park Shore for one month now but we can already see the children getting better each time we meet.  We are happy to be a part of the Park Shore family and look forward to continuing working with the campers at Park Shore.

Long Island Fitness and Wellness is a personal training company that, although new to the scene, has been impacting hundreds of lives in the area of health and fitness. It is a personal training gym that brings new light to the fitness world in Commack.  Somewhere in between a Crossfit style gym and a magazine cover studio, they have one of the best facilities on Long Island to get your workout on and even better GET RESULTS!!

We believe and know that being in the fitness industry, we are fighting what seems to be an up-hill battle against obesity, weight gain, and a very scary unhealthy America.  We are extremely passionate about not only delivering a workout you will love and crave more of, but we truly want you to be the healthiest, best version of you that you can be mentally, physically and nutritionally.

We are so happy to have been given the opportunity to work with your children at Park Shore and are looking forward to an amazing rest of the camp season.

Athletics News from Dave

OMG, its halftime already.  Down on the South end of campus the coaching staff has thoroughly enjoyed teaching and watching your children polish their skills.  The campers have motivated us to further instruct them and expand on their skill set.  Currently we are wrapping up the prestigious Park Shore Cup Tournament on the soccer fields.  Next week, be on the lookout for our own Park Shore Basketball Skills Challenge.  We are also finalizing our rosters for the illustrious Park Shore World Series.  In-between all of the exciting tournaments and contests the campers are continuing to develop their basic skills.  Our emphasis has been on demonstrating Park Shore sportsmanship.  In the words of Knute Rockne,"  One man practicing sportsmanship is far better than 100 people teaching it."  Looking forward to another four weeks.

Aquatics News from Cara and Chelsea

The summer  started off with a splash and we can't believe that the first four weeks are coming to an end!  Our campers have been working very hard and very diligently on improving their swimming skills with the help of our wonderful pool staff.  Some of these skills include the front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke, side stroke, elementary backstroke, butterfly, diving, floats, and a variety of safety skills.

In order for you to track your camper's progress throughout the summer, we will be sending home swim evaluations on July 26, as well as weeks 6 and 8.

Our first Patches and Buttons Pool Party was a complete success, thanks to Christi Shaw and her Aqua Zumba presentation.  The excitement shown by both the counselors and campers was infectious.  We are looking forward to more pool parties throughout the remainder of the summer with fun pool floats and music courtesy of our Park Shore DJ.

We are looking forward to diving into the next four weeks with all of you!  Don't forget your sunscreen and appropriate pool footwear!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us, as we will always be happy to assist you.  We hope you are all having a wonderful summer!
