Del Valle Wins Debate

Miguel del Valle for Mayor of Chicago In today's NBC Ward Room the Mayoral Debate Scorecard, declared that Miguel del Valle won the debate.

According to the article, Del Valle won the debate, in the sense that he gained more than any other candidate. Finally given the air time he can't afford, del Valle passionately argued his case for neighborhood empowerment and good government. He was also the candidate who best understood the financial struggles of the average Chicagoan. "People have had it up to here with the city," he said, sharing our exasperation with the red light cameras and parking meters that have been picking motorists' pockets. Del Valle's other big advantage: unlike his rivals, he had no skeletons to answer for. The worst the moderators could come up with was that he has no money, and he turned that around by saying, "If you're looking for a candidate who's beholden to the special interests, I'm not your guy." Some voters have been waiting 50 years to hear his closing message that "Chicago is ready for reform."

Collecting revenue in the City of Chicago

During the debate, Miguel del Valle stated city leaders have created 'an oppressive climate in the City of Chicago as a result of all these fees, tickets, red light cameras and parking meter deal.'  Click here to hear his statement about collecting revenues in the City of Chicago.

David vs, Goliath race for Chicago Mayor

Miguel del Valle in the campaign office It's been quite a week for Miguel del Valle in his David vs. Goliath race for Chicago Mayor. Some of it was well-earned and planned for like six helpful endorsements in one week. Cook County Commissioners Jesus Garcia and Edwin Reyes both announced their support. Additionally, del Valle was endorsed by State Rep. Robyn Gabel and author and progressive leader Tom Geoghegan. Click here to read the rest of the Chicago Examiner article.

Miguel del Valle definitely positioned himself as the anti-establishment candidate. He slammed Chicago's revenue tactics, saying that the city has been putting its financial problems on the backs of working and poor Chicagoans while giving big contracts and good jobs to politically connected people. Though he trails badly financially (and in the polls) he is emerging as "the most progressive candidate in the field."  Click here to read the rest of the Huffington Post article.

On the record:

ChicagoPride.comDuring his tenure as a State Senator, del Valle -- who's often referred to as "the liberal's liberal" -- maintained a strong record on LGBT issues, voting in 2005 to expand the Illinois Human Rights Act to bar discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity in housing, employment and public accommodation. Del Valle, who was once a board member of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, has also consistently advocated to protect HIV/AIDS funding for outreach to minority communities when such funding has been threatened.  Click here to read the rest of the Chicago Pride article.
