Our goal for this class is to create a safe space where we can question our answers, as well as find our answers to some of the deeper questions of what it means to be a follower of Jesus in an Episcopal context. Come join us - the class will run
Sunday mornings through April 8th.
SAVE THESE DATES:

February 23-24 , Centering Prayer Workshop with The Rev. Tom Ward. Would you like to deepen your relationship with God in 2018, enjoying a discipline of prayer in the silent presence of the Divine? Centering Prayer represents one way we can be in relation with God. Based on ancient insights, Centering Prayer is a disciplined Christian method focused not on speaking to God, but on listening with the heart in the silence, making us profoundly available to the Divine with the whole of our being; present in a way that transcends thoughts, words, and emotions. Sometimes called the Prayer of Simplicity, Centering Prayer presents the teaching of earlier times in an updated form in which we consent to God's presence and action in our lives. The emerging transformation is not the result of one's own efforts, but of the Trinity "who prays within us with sighs too deep for words." (Romans 8:26)  Registration details and itinerary details are forthcoming. Stayed tuned to your email, bulletins, and website (saint johns-charlotte.org. If you have any questions, please contact Brad Smith+, bsmith@saintjohns-charlotte.org.

"Lectio Divina: Praying & Reading Holy Scriptures" Beginning Wednesday, January 24 (Rm 208), 7:30a.m.-8:30a.m. , we will gather each week to be prayerfully and slowly immersed in Holy Scripture using the ancient approach of lectio divina (holy reading). Guided by the Spirit and openness to one another, lectio divina forms and informs the whole person. If you have any questions, please contact Brad Smith+, bsmith@saintjohns-charlotte.org.

Lenten Wednesdays - "Passion for Pilgrimage: Notes for the Journey Home" by Alan Jones.  Orthodox in spirit and stressing the inner journey of faith rather than doctrinal formulas, Alan Jones shares thoughtful reflections that  explore the spiritual meaning of Lent, the Crucifixion, and Easter. Together we will be probe a faith born in "the collision of two passions--our passion for God and God's passion for us." Wednesdays,  Feb. 21-March 21, 6:00pm-7:00pm, Rm. 204/205.  If you have any questions, please contact Brad Smith+, bsmith@saintjohns-charlotte.org.

A very special thank you to our amazing volunteers!  Thanks to you we were able to open our doors an extra night this past Sunday so our homeless neighbors would have a warm place to sleep and watch the Panthers play off game!

Most of our volunteer spots have been filled, but we do have a few openings left, especially for overnight hosts.  Here are the jobs for which we still need your help:

Overnight Hosts spend the evening with our guests to make sure they have a restful evening.  We need two people on the following nights:  March 8 and March 29.  We need one person on the following nights:  February 1, March 1 and March 22.

Van Drivers transport our guests to and from Urban Ministry Center.  We need one person on March 22.

Dinner Hosts provide, prepare, and serve a hot meal to our guests.  We need one family to help on March 22 and March 29.

Laundry Teams pick up the sheets, towels, and sweat suits used by our guests and clean them for use the following week.  We need help with laundry on March 8.

If you can help with one of these jobs please go to our Sign-Up Genius page.  If you want to find out more about ways you can help, please contact Janice at 704-351-1577 or at janicestafford@parkerpoe.com or Carol at 704-641-1916 or at carol@fortenberrylambert.com .
