WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENTS
FROM
ST. JOHN'S

August 9-15, 2017

The ECW, in partnership with Family Ministries, is holding a school supplies drive during the month of August.  While purchasing new backpacks, notebooks, pencils, graph paper, and other school supplies is something many of us take for granted, preparing for school is a significant challenge for many in our community.  But you can help! Starting this weekend, and running through August 27th, our parish is collecting school supplies to give to children in need at Merry Oaks Elementary school (near Galilee Ministries).  If you would like to help, simply purchase school supplies and put them in the donation bins you will see at the church.  While all gifts are appreciated, items such as backpacks and calculators are particularly welcome.  If you have any questions, please contact Matt Williams by email ( matt@saintjohns-charlotte.org) or by phone (704-366-3034).
Vestry nominees
It's not too soon to start thinking about whether you are called to serve your parish as a candidate for the Vestry.  We will be officially calling for nominations for the Vestry starting October 1, and we will need to have at least 4 candidates.  Vestry members serve a 3-year term.  Benefits include a deeper insight into the life of St. John's and a wonderful fellowship with your colleagues.  Contact any Vestry member to get your questions answered and explore your call.
Diocesan Delegates
At the July 24 Vestry meeting, the Vestry elected Jennifer Mullis and affirmed Justin Mullis as St. John's Diocesan Delegates for a 3-year term ending in 2019.  Rick Parker and Celeste Brockington will serve 1-year terms as Alternates, attending the Diocesan Convention if any of our 4 delegates cannot serve.  We give thanks to God for their willingness to represent St. John's!
Please remember to wear your name tag whenever you are at church. This will help Rob get to know us.

If you do not have a name tag, please contact Laura Pruitt (lpruitt@saintjohns-charlotte.org). She will have one made for you and any members of your family!
