Cross Country Team Has Solid Showing at Ed Sias Invitational
Last week the Carondelet cross country team competed in a pair of events, first at the Monte Vista Invitational on Tuesday, then the Ed Sias Invitational on Saturday. The Cougars had a solid performance at both events, as the senior class took home first place at Monte Vista, while the varsity squad posted a fourth place, and podium finish, at the Ed Sias Invite. 

At the Monte Vista Invite, the Carondelet senior runners finished first overall, as Clare Schumann finished 12th with a time of 13:55.65. Kelsey Dempsey finished 16th (14:12.82), and Kasey DeMaria (14:45/05) and Liza Richards (14:48.96) finished 19th and 20th, respectively. 

Junior Sophia Green came in as the top performer for the Cougars at Monte Vista, posting a time of 13:50.53, to finish sixth overall in the junior class race. Sophia's time was a 2-minute PR in the two-mile race. 

Sophia continued her personal bests at the Ed Sias Invite, where she finished the 2-mile races in a time of 13:40.5 and finished 22nd overall. Sophia's time as the Ed Sias Invite was more than a 1-minute personal improvement at the event. Clare Schumann paced the Cougars with a time of 13:31.6, to finish 21st overall, and sophomore runner Taryn Cunningham posted a 2-minute PR at the Ed Sias Invite, finishing 43rd overall with a time of 14:32.5. 

The Carondelet varsity cross country team will look to build on its early season success this weekend, when competes in the De La Salle/Carondelet Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16. The event will be held at Newhall Park in Concord, Calif., and is scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m.

SAVE THE DATE: College Information Night, Oct. 23, 2017
 
In conjunction with De La Salle High School, Carondelet will host a College Information Night for all prospective student-athletes, on Monday, October 23, from 7-8:30 pm in the Garaventa Center.  

If your daughter is interested in playing a sport in college, this night will provide valuable information for your family in her matriculation to the collegiate level. Please save the date! More information regarding this event will come soon. 
Last Week In Carondelet Sports
  • The Carondelet golf team opened the week with a 185-323 victory over San Ramon Valley, on Tuesday from the Crow Canyon Country Club. Freshman Maddie Gamble led the Cougars with a 1-under par round of 34. 
  • In the second match of the week, Carondelet squared off against both Amador Valley and Foothill at Diablo Country Club. The Cougars posted a score of 206 in the tri-match, which resulted in a loss to Foothill (203) and a victory over Amador Valley (210). 
  • The Carondelet varsity tennis team played five matches last week, posting a 3-2 overall record. 
  • The Cougars posted a 1-1 record in EBAL matches, first falling to San Ramon Valley 7-2 on Tuesday, before defeating Dublin, 6-3, on Thursday. 
  • Carondelet then competed in the Northgate Round Robin, where they opened the event with a 6-1 victory over Berean Christian on Friday. On Saturday, the Cougars played Benicia and Northgate, posting a 4-3 win over the Panthers, before losing 7-0 against the Broncos. 
  • The junior varsity tennis team opened the week with a 5-0 loss to San Ramon Valley on Tuesday. The Cougars Thursday match against Dublin was not played. 
  • The Carondelet varsity volleyball team posted a 2-0 record last week, collecting a pair of straight set victories over EBAL opponents.
  • The Cougars opened the week with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-22) win at Dublin, before traveling to Granada on Thursday for a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-21) victory over the Matadors. 
  • Shelby Bryant paced the Cougars with nine kills in the win over Dublin, while Catherine Vaccaro led Carondelet with 13 kills in the victory over Granada. 
JV Volleyball (2-1, 2-1 EBAL)
  • The Carondelet junior varsity volleyball team posted a 2-0 record last week, first defeating Dublin 2-1 (25-20, 24-26, 15-12) on Tuesday, before closing the week with a 2-0 (25-14, 25-15) victory over Granada. 
Freshman Volleyball (4-2, 2-1 EBAL)
  • The Carondelet freshman volleyball team posted a pair of EBAL wins last week, first defeating Dublin, 2-0, on Tuesday. The Cougars closed the EBAL schedule with a 2-1 win at Granada on Thursday. 
  • The Cougars then competed in the Dougherty Valley Freshman Tournament on Saturday, posting a 2-2 record in the event. Carondelet opened the tournament with wins over Deer Valley (2-0) and Clayton Valley (2-0), before losing to Acalanes (2-1) and San Ramon Valley (2-0).
Varsity Water Polo (1-0, 1-0 EBAL)
  • In their first official game of the season, the Carondelet varsity water polo team posted a 19-0 victory over Dougherty Valley, on Tuesday from De La Salle High School. 
  • Junior Kelsey Morris led the Cougars with eight goals in the game, scoring six of Carondelet's 10 goals in the first half. 
  • Goalkeepers Alex Brown and Annika Zapata combined to shutout the Wildcats.
  • The Cougars played a scrimmage at Northgate on Friday, posting a 10-0 win over the Broncos. 
JV Water Polo (1-0, 1-0 EBAL)
  • The Carondelet JV water polo team collected an 11-2 victory over Dougherty Valley on Tuesday. It was also the first win of the season for the Cougars' JV squad.
  • The Cougars played a scrimmage at Northgate on Friday afternoon, posting an 11-2 win over the Broncos.

Catherine Vaccaro '19
Varsity Volleyball

Junior Catherine Vaccaro helped the Carondelet varsity volleyball team post a pair of EBAL wins last week. In the Cougars win over Dublin, Catherine had seven kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 victory over the Gaels. In Thursday's match against Granada, she posted a double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs, while posting a .343 hitting percentage.

Angela Atis '21
JV Volleyball

Angela Atis was the player of the week for JV volleyball squad, that posted a 2-0 EBAL record last week. Angela led the team with five aces, 15 service points and dished out 16 assists in the team's two league wins. 

Madelyn Gamble '21
Varsity Golf

Madelyn Gables is currently the number two ranked player on the Carondelet golf team, and h as broken par in 40 percent of her rounds played so far this season. L ast week, she was the medalist in the San Ramon Valley match at Crow Canyon CC, with a 1-under par round of 34.

Kelsey Morris '19
Varsity Water Polo

Kelsey Morris, a junior 2-meter specialist for the Carondelet varsity water polo team, had a break-out game against Dougherty Valley last week. Kelsey scored eight goals, with three impressive break-away counter attacks, with three steals and two block shots. Kelsey, along with her teammates, led the Cougars to a shutout of the Wildcats.

Sophia Green '19
Cross Country

Sofia Green has had an outstanding first month of the season for the cross country team. She was the top performer for the Cougars at the Monte Vista Invitational, with the time of 13:50.53 for the two mile race. This time was one minute and forty-three seconds faster than her previous personal best on this course. At the Ed Sias Invitational, she was the second fastest Cougar, completing the two-mile race in a time of  13:40.5, over a one minute PR for the junior runner at the event. 

Lucienne Arrigoni '19
JV Tennis

Lucienne Arrigoni shows up for every practice and every match with a great attitude and a focus on what needs to be done. Lulu is a strong leader and an asset to the coaches. She leads by example and has compassion for her teammates. Recently, she asked if she could also play doubles because she felt she was not getting to know the newest members of the team. Lulu has shown steady growth in her game due to her work ethic and her ability to take away something from every match.

Lauren Longstreet '20
Varsity Tennis

Lauren Longstreet  is one of the most competitive and hardest working players on the varsity tennis team. Lauren played in all five matches last week, playing four singles matches on line two and stepping in to play line one doubles in the last match of the week. Lauren never gives up whether she is winning or is down.  Lauren is coachable and is a team leader for the squad.   

Chloe Flashberger '21
Freshman Volleyball

Chloe Flashberger  brought her ace serve with her to the Cougars' 2-2 showing at the Dougherty Valley Tournament this weekend. In the four matches, she helped the Carondelet freshman volleyball team post 15 points with her behind the service line.
