Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Shop Sparta

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Sparta Presbyterian Church

Sparta Presbyterian Church welcomes  Rev. Bryan Hovey who is serving as interim minister during the transition time between installed pastors. In addition to pastoral responsibilities, Rev. Hovey is committed to and has been trained in preparing a church for the next pastorate. Rev. Hovey grew up in Hickory, NC, and currently resides in Concord and Sparta.

The Alleghany Democratic Party will have their monthly meeting  November 14, 2017 at  6:00 pm .  The meeting will be held at the Sparta Town Office, located at  304 South Main Street.  Light refreshments will be served.

Robin Cater will be performing at Christ Episcopal Church for the Mountain Soul Music Festival beginning at 6 PM.
The Mountain Soul Music Festival will be held on every last Sunday of the month starting in April until December. Admission is free but donations are appreciated!

New River State Park

Weeds in Winter -  Saturday, November 25, at 1:00 pm
 Meet at the Wagoner Access contact station 
Join a Park Ranger in learning how to recognize and identify our favorite Summer and Fall wildflowers during Winter. Also, learn about the ecological benefits a fallow field adds to a wildlife habitat. 
Free Native grass seed samples to participants as long as supplies last.

The Alleghany County Library invites needle workers of all experience levels to meet together at the Alleghany County Library on

Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.
