The joint Town Council/County Commissioner meeting will be Monday, April 30th at 7 PM at the Town Council meeting room.

Printing 5,000 copies: 3,000+ are mailed directly to residents in Ashe, Alleghany and Grayson counties. The remaining 2,000 are distributed in high traffic areas - visitor centers, chambers of commerce, medical office waiting rooms, etc. The online version has been viewed nearly 400 times and we have a growing subscription base that extends into Georgia, Ohio, and South Carolina.

New River State Park Programs

Tree Identification Hike:Saturday April 28, 2018 – 2:00pm; Wagoner Access
Join Park staff in learning how to identify common trees of New River State Park. The leaves will finally be "leafing out" along the one mile Fern Nature trail at the Wagoner Access of New River State Park. Meet at the Park office at 2 pm. Bring binoculars for spotting leaves and Spring tree dwellers. For more information call 226-982-2587.
Alleghany County Broker's Tour
Greenfield Acres Realty is very excited to start our monthly County Broker's Tour! This will be held every third Thursday morning of the month from 8:30 -11ish.  
  
The KICK-OFF will begin at my office at 8:30. We will have coffee and morning treats and visit until 8:45 and begin the first home tour at 9:00.

The May Diabetes Today class will be on Tuesday, May 1, 12:00 noon at the Alleghany Wellness Center .. The topic is "Med not Meds" in celebration of National  Mediterranean Diet Month .  There is no cost for the program but please call the Extension office to register at  336-372-5597 . This event is sponsored by the Alleghany Center of NC Cooperative Extension, Alleghany CARES, Alleghany Health and Wellness Center and Appalachian Health Care.

Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.
