Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 Us Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Create your very own Fairy Friendly Lantern at the Alleghany County Public Library! Join us on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am for a brand new Make It & Take It Craft! Community Knitters

Sparta Presbyterian Church 

Sparta Presbyterian Church will have an Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, March 1 at Noon.  Th e service will include the imposition of ashes and communion along with scripture readings and music.  All are invited to attend.

The Alleghany County Republican Party 

The Alleghany County Republican Party will hold its combined county/precinct convention at the Bruce Wayne Osborne VFW Post 7034 on Thursday, March 2, beginning at 6 pm. We will be electing new county and precinct officers as well as executive committee members. We welcome all registered Alleghany Republicans, food will be provided.

  • Excel Spreadsheet: Saturday, March 4th, March 11th, March 18th 2017 from 8:30 to noon.  The cost of the class is $75.
  • Gunsmithing II: starting on Monday, March 6th- May 1st 2017. Classes are Monday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.
  • Independent Auto Dealer Recertification: Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 from 9:00-4:00 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.
  • Spanish in the Workplace: starting on Wednesday March 22nd-May 10th 2017.  Classes are Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.
  • Photoshop: starts on Tuesday, March 14th-May 2nd 2017.  Classes are each Tuesday night from 6:00-9:00 pm.  The cost of the class is $70.

Join us for the  Hillbilly Hoedown  with  Rise and Shine Band  every Tuesday night. Admission $5 on Tuesday, $6 on Saturday, age 12 and under free.
