Printing 5,000 copies: 3,000+ are mailed directly to residents in Ashe, Alleghany and Grayson counties. The remaining 2,000 are distributed in high traffic areas - visitor centers, chambers of commerce, medical office waiting rooms, etc. The online version has been viewed nearly 400 times and we have a growing subscription base that extends into Georgia, Ohio, and South Carolina.

Trail Marking Celebration 
Friends of ASTA,

Please join us this Saturday, May 12 at 10 am for the marking of the first section of Sparta Trail! Music, coffee, cake and speakers will lead the way to the ribbon cutting and the one-mile hike to the Mountains-To-Sea Trail connection and the newly MST campsites created by ASTA.

New River State Park Programs

100 Mile Challenge Hike
Saturday, May 12th @ 10:00 a.m.; 221 Access - Visitor Center
Need to add a few miles to your log? Join a State Ranger at the visitor center off of Highway 221 in the New River State Park for a 2.4-mile hike. It is recommended to where sturdy shoes, dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. Don't forget to log your hike, if you are working towards you 100 miles in the 100 -mile challenge. Leave It to Beavers
Saturday, May 12th @ 2:00 p.m.; Meet at the 221 Lower Parking Lot
Join a park ranger to learn about natures "dam builders"...the good...the hazards…
and their role in the eco-system of our forests and waterways. There will be a short hike to look for beaver signs.

Alleghany County Broker's Tour
Greenfield Acres Realty is hosting our monthly Alleghany County Brokers Tour on  Thursday, May 17th.  

We will meet at 2083 US Hwy 21 S at 8:30 and return by 11:00ish. Morning refreshments will be offered until 8:45 and then off to our first listing by 9:00.

Alleghany in Motion has been reserved for transportation. Please call and reserve your spot! We will try to have at least one listing from each firm that participates. 

Give Aimee a call at 336-223-3771 to see if your listing can be highlighted. All local firms are encouraged to participate. This is a GREAT service for your sellers! Be informed for your buyers!

Withdrawal/Cancellation policy: In case of student withdrawal, tuition less 20% is refundable up to two weeks prior to class.
Tuition cannot be refunded if student withdraws less than two weeks prior to class.
Studio Redwood reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment, severe weather, illness or other reasons.
If SRI cancels a class, payment is fully refundable.
Advance payment must be received in order to reserve a class space.

Storytime is presented each Monday at 10:30 am for Preschoolers, except for the month of August and the month of February.

Game day every Monday 3:30pm - 5:30pm FOR YOUTH 10 YEARS AND OLDER!

Each Monday, at 1:00 pm , the Alleghany County Library is hosting Game Day for Adults. Join others to play card games, invite your friends and meet new friends.

Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 
Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.
