Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse. 

Local blue grass and old time musicians jam each Monday, 2 blocks north of the Courthouse at the Crouse House in Crouse Park, beginning at 6pm. Come and play or just listen. No charge, but a donation is appreciated. 336-372-5473

Shop Sparta 
The town of Sparta offers a variety of art galleries, apparel and accessory stores, gift shops, restaurants and even an old fashioned hardware store. Click here to learn more about the merchants in Sparta. 
Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Free Notary services are now available for Chamber members Monday-Wednesday from 10 AM until 5 PM at the Chamber of Commerce. 
Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet Tickets

 Chamber Awards tickets are available for sale at the Chamber of Commerce. There are 100 tickets available for sale.  
Tickets are $35 per person. The Banquet will be located at High Meadows Country Club on May 20.

Senior Citizen's Day Out

A Picture is Worth MORE Than A 1000 Words

Take the challenge and create a piece of art which transforms the written word into visual format!
Presented by The Alleghany County Public Library in cooperation with the Alleghany Writers.

Dirty Fingers: English Tea

Guided Canoe Trip

Sunday, May 21st @ 2:00 pm
Canoe the New River with a park ranger and learn the history of the river, and basic canoe instruction while you enjoy a leisurely trip down the river. Please wear clothing and shoes suitable for the water and be aware that the water temperature is cooler than the air. We will meet at New River State Park's Hwy 221 Access lower parking area.  Don't forget to log your canoe trip, if you are working towards you 100 miles in the 100 mile challenge. Baccalaureate Service
The Alleghany Ministerium is hosting a baccalaureate service to honor 2017 graduates of Alleghany High School.
Any 2017 high school graduates, including those from private or homeschool are invited to participate, wearing their caps and gowns.  Rev. Jack Tookey, President of the Alleghany County Ministerium will bring the greeting to the students, families, and the community.
Rev. Bruce Benton, Vice-president of the Ministerium will deliver the message.
Rev. John McCray will give the charge and the benediction.
A video of campus and student activities is being prepared, set to a contemporary Christian music theme.
Family, friends, and the community are invited to attend the service.
