Ongoing Events and Entertainment
Come just to listen or to dance to the blue grass and old time musicians who play every  Tuesday and Saturday beginning at 7pm. Admission  is $5 on Tuesday and $6 on Saturday. Line Dancing classes are also offered on Monday nights beginning at 6pm. The Jubilee is located on North Main Street, across from the Courthouse.

Barn Quilt Trails 

Barns and other buildings around the county display squares illustrating quilt patterns and add interest to a driving tour of the countryside. Drop by Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center for a brochure. We are in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.

Driving Loops
Brochures for three driving loops of the Alleghany country-side are available at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center. Each loop is about a leisurely hour's drive and includes information on historic points along the way. The Chamber office is in the rock building with the green awning (58 South Main Street, Sparta). Our foyer is always open and a brochure is always available.
Be sure to visit when planning a trip this Spring or Summer. Open Thursday through Saturday, 10am to 5pm. There's never an admission charge. Stop by to experience local history and to see the new displays, 7 North Main Street, Sparta.

Veterans' Morning Coffee & Breakfast
 at the VFW
The VFW hosts an informal full breakfast including, biscuits, gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, and coffee every Wednesday from 8:30-11am. All veterans are invited to attend.  Click to learn more .
 
The VFW Military Museum is open to the public, 10am-2pm, every Wednesday and Saturday in the basement of the VFW Post 7034, 1193 US Highway 21 S, Sparta, NC. Admission is free.

Chamber members may purchase tickets at the Chamber office through Monday, May 1.  
After May 1, tickets will also be offered to the general public. There are 100 tickets available for sale.

Blue Ridge Spring Gala Dinner

The Blue Ridge Christian School presents the Blue Ridge Spring Gala Dinner on Saturday, April 29th,at 6 PM. This will be a great family event featuring an inspirational speaker, gourmet meal, music, and a silent auction. The dinner is $20 a person and tickets can be purchased at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. 
Ladies Night Out

VOLUNTEER WORK DAY-TRAIL MAINTENANCE

This is a great opportunity for high school students to get the volunteer hours needed for graduation and those that love to help out your state parks. Come and join a ranger on Saturday, April 29 at 9 AM and learn how to maintain the trails here at the 221 access. Bring plenty of water and wear sturdy shoes. Dress for the weather.

Leave it to Beavers

Join a park ranger to learn about natures "dam builders"...the good...the hazards...and their role in the eco-system of our forests and waterways. There will be a short hike to look for beaver signs on Sunday, April 30 at 2 PM.
Mountain Soul Music Festival 

April 30th The Faithful Four (Gospel) from Greensboro, NC and The McMillian Ministries Adult Choir (Gospel) from Galax, Virginia will be performing at Christ Episcopal Church. The Mountain Soul Music Festival will be held on every last Sunday of the month starting in April until December. Admission is free but donations are appreciated.

Sparta United Methodist Church Women's Retreat

This event is hosted by Sparta United Methodist Church for women of all ages on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm. Tickets are $15 per person; registration is required by April 15. Library Storytelling ReVonda Crow

Local storyteller, ReVonda Crow, will be telling stories at the library in Sparta on Sat., May 6 th at 11:00 am for 'Summer Fun Saturday Storytelling'. This event is geared for children, but, adults are 
very welcome to attend as well. ReVonda enjoys
 telling Brer Rabbit stories, and likes to incorporate stories from children about their own experiences with rabbits, and possums, and other local animals. ReVonda has called the Blue Ridge Mountains home since 1989, She lives in Wilkes County, and is a lover of stories. Come and enjoy the fun and sharing of the tradition that is storytelling. There might also be a tale about Little Red Riding Hood, with a different twist. Come and see if you can tell how this version is different than what you may have heard or told your children!

 JAM Dinner Concert

A dinner concert will be taking place on May 11 starting at 6 pm. F eaturing Wayne Henderson, Helen White, and Herb Key with special guests, Kitty Amazral, Presley Barker, and Jam Students. Tickets are $50 a piece and the sale will close on May 4. Tickets can be purchased online at: alleghanyjam.org or at the Alleghany Chamber of Commerce. There will also be a silent and live auction. All proceed to go support Alleghany Junior Appalachian Musicians. 



Working Writers Workshop: Darnell Arnoult

Darnell Arnoult, award-winning poet and novelist, will appear at the Alleghany County Public Library in Sparta, NC., May 13, from 3-5 pm. The Library is now in its new location, 115 Atwood Street, adjacent to the Sparta campus of Wilkes Community College. Ms Arnoult will read from her recently published collection, GALAXIE WAGON, and also give short samples of her work in progress, followed by interview, Q&A and book signing. poetry workshop on Friday, May 12, 9am to noon, and a writer workshop on Saturday, May 13, 9am to noon. Workshops are
