April 9, 2014

The rain has cleared and we are on track to have BEAUTIFUL weather on Friday for the Booster Club's Annual Spring Fling Chicken Dinner!  Join us for good food and family fun!  Children's activities will kick off at 3:30 pm and plates provided by Parker's BBQ will be served from 5-7:00 pm.  Can't stay and play? Pick up a plate!  Drive thru service will be available, simply pull through the pick-up line on main campus, as you approach the tennis courts, plates will be hand delivered to your car.

Picnic tables will be scattered throughout the campus so you can eat while watching the baseball, tennis or soccer games.  You can park and walk-up to the plate delivery station and pick up your plate and settle in for a night full of sports! To order your meal tickets contact Athletic Director Amy Gardner.

Show your team spirit and support the Booster Club during this great event!
Thank you to EVERYONE who supported this year's Blue Jean Ball!

So far the Oakwood community has given $23,600 (with matching funds) to our Science Programs.  There is still a dollar-for-dollar match available through Friday.  Donate to the Oakwood's Science Program today and make an immediate difference in your child's classroom!

A Note From Your PSA President
Dear Oakwood Families,

Happy Spring - I hope that everyone has had a chance to enjoy some of our more temperate days recently. A huge Thank You goes out to everyone who made our annual Auction and Blue Jean Ball a sparkling success! A wonderful time was had by all and it is thanks to you that our beloved Oakwood School moves ever forward in the direction of becoming the "Premier educational opportunity in Eastern North Carolina." Kudos to Beverly Thompson and all of our dedicated volunteers who helped bring us together to benefit not only our school, but the greater Greenville community!

There may only be seven weeks of school left, but the Parent Service Association is still in full swing, with many opportunities to volunteer and meet new friends! Thursday, April 17 (the day before our long weekend off) is the Spring Bake Sale. Please mark your calendars to make your favorite dish or baked good to sell under the breezeway that day. We will be accepting donations the day before or the day of this traditional Oakwood event. Please email me (Trevai@aol.com) with what you would be willing to make or if you can help raise the esprit de corp by volunteering that day! Many hands are needed to make the work light--and the more, the merrier!

Soon thereafter, join us for Family Cinema Night, Friday, April 25 at 7:30PM! For a nominal fee, your family will receive pizza, drinks and watch a great family-friendly flick under the stars (weather permitting, otherwise in the gym). This event is not to be missed--Thank you, Kim Sayers and Angel MacKenzie for organizing this fun time!

Lastly, please mark your calendars for Teacher Appreciation Week, May 5 - 9. Details will follow, but we want to be sure to honor, thank and appreciate the ones who teach and take the very best care of our children all year through! This is what PSA is known for and your help will be needed!

With much appreciation for everyone's efforts this year - Thanks for being, "All in!"

Treva Inzerillo,
PSA President

Congratulations to Jennifer Pabst who recently received the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award for her efforts in orchestrating a Autism Fair.  Jennifer is also receiving the Pitt County Daughters of the Revolution Good Citizens Award.  Jennifer is being granted this award based on qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.  Way to go Jennifer!

Have you been hearing the faint sound of a baby's cry while walking through our hallways? It's that time of year again! The 9th grade health class is celebrating the "joys" of parenthood with their computerized babies!  Adra Harner learns that a crying baby waits for no one!  Adra paused her studies to soother her crying baby this afternoon in Monk Hall.
