Small Business Saturday

Saturday, November 26, 2016 is Small Business Saturday┬« - a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities. Of the Macomb Chamber's 820 members, 92% are small businesses. - a mighty force for our community and economy.

Did you know that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in that town. Spending $100 at a national chain means only $43 stays in town. And just last year, shoppers spent more than $16 billion at small businesses on Small Business Saturday.

You can register your business with the campaign. Of course, you don't have to register, but it will make it easier for new customers to find you, putting your business on a map of participating small businesses as well as gaining access to customized marketing materials to start spreading the word.

Maybe you're a large business and think this doesn't apply to you; however, the Chamber encourages you to spread the word for Small Business Saturday, even mentioning it to the businesses around you to ensure they're aware and participating. There may be avenues for large and small businesses to work together by offering complementary services or sales for Small Business Saturday.

Thanksgiving weekend is a busy time, so you'll want to be sure your customers have time to plan ahead. Let your customers know about your Small Business Saturday events and sales using social media, email ads, and your website.

Chamber Member to be featured on 'House Hunters' Friday night

Local realtor and Chamber member, Jessica Swanson, and her client  Tiffany Prater, had been searching for the perfect house around Macomb County when Prater had an idea and reached out to the producers of the HGTV series "House Hunters."

Filming took place in the span of just five days with all local scenes wrapping up filming in April. Swanson said they looked at homes in Harrison Township, Clinton Township and St. Clair Shores. Other scenes were filmed around those areas, including a scene at Bentley's Roadhouse on South River Road.

"House Hunters" will air at 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, on HGTV.
