A Message From
Rev. Ruth MacKenzie

I'm looking out my window this morning. There is a light dusting of snow, and we're back to 30 temps. Is it any wonder that our Christian brothers and sisters speak of resurrection, this movement from darkness to light, lifelessness to living and breathing? It's hard to trust that movement will happen, that resurrection will manifest when you're stuck in a job you hate, when you're in a never ending battle with your kids, when depression won't seem to let go of your heart. It's hard to trust, to believe.

The Chinese character for darkness is a combination of two gestures: "gate" and "sound." We may not be able to see our way out, but we can trust there is sound to guide us. A gate is there in the darkness, calling us into new life, into resurrection. Sit quietly for five minutes today. Sit with your eyes closed. What do you hear? What do you sense?
