Growing Together: An Update on our Ministry and the Budget

With such an inclusive and theologically diverse faith, it's easy to forget that we actually have some core practices at First Universalist Church. They are:

  • To welcome, affirm, and protect the light in each human heart; last week, 20 children attended Chalice Camp, warmly welcomed by adults and middle school camp counselors. We will never stop loving and affirming our children!
  • To act outside our walls to make the world a better place; thanks to the efforts of hundreds of congregants, we'll finish the "House that Love Built" in the middle of July! This has been a yearlong project and we are helping to transform an entire neighborhood.
  • To listen deeply to where love is calling us next; love is calling us to become a church committed to racial justice principles and practices. This coming year, we continue this journey through workshops, classes, worship, and deepening partnerships in the community.

Our gifts - whether time, talent, or financial resources - fuel these core practices, and these practices, in turn, help us give, receive, and grow into love's people. It is our budget that supports these practices and the mission of the church.

I am grateful to all of you who have given so generously to support our 2014-2015 budget. Although we've had to make cuts in the budget, the good news is that it appears we'll be able to restore childcare in September! As additional financial pledges come, we'll restore staff hours in our Religious Education Department, as well as hours for our Minister of Worship Arts position.

Together, we help this faith community thrive.

I'll see you in church,
Justin

Seeking TV Donations!

If you're upgrading your television, please consider donating your old TV to church! We are seeking TV monitors for use in our classrooms; they will be mounted and equipped with inexpensive Roku devices so classes can easily access online resources. Your generosity will enable us to incorporate more music and short videos that inspire deeper exploration of Religious Education lessons.

In order to meet our needs, donated TVs must be flat screens with integrated speakers and an HDMI input. If you have it, mounting hardware is appreciated, too. Please deliver your donation to the church office, and leave your name and address for Brad so he can provide a letter documenting receipt for use in tax preparation. Thank you!

Any questions?  Email Brad at [email protected].

Water Communion: Sept 7

On Sunday, Sept 7, we will celebrate the UU tradition of Water Communion -- and now is not too early to collect your liquid offering. We certainly have enough water this summer to make it hard to choose your source. Gather up a few ounces of that precious liquid -- from Minnehaha Falls, your basement, your travels, the lake, or your favorite pool. Then, in the fall, bring your drops to join with the waters of our whole community in our Water Communion ingathering ritual.

Do you love working outside doing yard and garden work?

With all the recent rain, the church grounds are in need of some loving attention. If you're interested in working with a team, doing pruning, weed pulling, and trimming, please let us know! We're planning to meet several times a month, but it's flexible. In addition to having our church grounds look nice, this is also about being a good neighbor.  Please email Ginny at:

[email protected]  to indicate your interest.
