We've Been

Waiting for You

by Rev. Justin Schroeder

If you weren't able to attend worship last Sunday, check out the sermon podcast. I offered some deeply personal reflections about our faith, hospitality, and why our racial justice efforts are so important. I referenced the Twitter hashtag, #fergusonsyllabus; as a follow up to the sermon, I hope you'll spend some time reading this article from The Atlantic It's a resource rich article. Spend some time reading, reflecting, and engaging, and then join us at one of the Racial Justice workshops, Circles, or monthly Racial Justice discussions that we're offering at church, so the learning can be integrated and acted upon.

Next Monday, September 22, at 7pm, at Breck School, I'll be moderating the conversation, "Will Scientific Knowledge Replace Religious Faith Within 100 Years?" This event is put on by the Minneapolis Multi-faith Networkand brings together Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and Unitarian Universalist religious leaders for a dialogue with one another, informed by questions from the audience. I hope you'll join us. To learn more, click here.

Finally, we're in the final week of signups for our Circles We're offering Circles for people of color, men, fathers of small children, parents of 2nd-5th graders, parents of 5th-8th graders, lesbian moms, queer young adults (for folks in their 20's-30's), people living with chronic illness,  and more. We're offering Spiritual Deepening Circles such as "Mostly Silent Meditation," "The New Jim Crow: A Reading Circle," "Spiritual Practices & Support for Those Living with Depression & Other Mental Health Concerns," and others. To learn more, and figure out which Circle is right for you, visit our Circle page

Child care is available for all of our Circles. You can sign up for a Circle through Sunday, September 21. Sign up soon, because many Circles have already filled up, and others are nearly full.

I'll see you in church,

Justin

Blankets Needed

Simpson Housing Services is in urgent need of blankets for the homeless shelter.  Used and any size are fine.  The blankets must be washable.  Bring blankets to the church on Sunday, September 21, and they will be delivered to Simpson Shelter.  Bring the blankets in a bag, labeled "Simpson" or use a bag in the coat closet at the base of the stairs leading to the sanctuary.  All blankets left in the coat closet will be picked up after the second service on 9/21.  If you wish to make another kind of in-kind donation to Simpson, check their "urgent needs" list at this link.

Thanks for your support of the shelter.

Anne Frenchick
