Summer on the Circle - June 17 to July 29

Each Sunday, we will have an abbreviated time of worship from 10:00 to 10:45, followed by classes for all ages from 10:45 to 11:30.

Nursery Care will be provided, and Pat Nelson will lead a Children's Class (Ages 5 to 5th Grade).

Classes for Youth & Adults Include:

Refining Westmoreland's Vision - Widening the Circle of Love
The Governance Council will lead a visioning exercise to reflect on who we, the Westmoreland Community, are and who we are called to be. We will focus on worship, fellowship, spiritual formation, outreach, service, and environmental stewardship.

Flowers and Faith
Patricia Frye and other Flower Committee members will lead a class on the history of flowers as art, flower-arranging, and the beauty we see in nature.

War and Peace and Us
Tim Tutt will lead a sermon feedback forum, discussing how the
issues of war and peace are addressed in preaching.
Support the Youth Bible-A-Thon

The youth will be having a lock-in on June 9 from 6:00 pm to June 10 at 9:00 am. The youth will be spending the night in the church and, along with many other activities (movies, Mario Kart, games), they will be participating in a Bible-A-Thon fundraiser to raise funds for the KY Mission Trip and the Housing Development Alliance. This is similar to a Walk-A-Thon, but instead of collecting pledges based on how far one walks, the pledges are based on how far the youth get in reading the Bible, starting with Matthew 1.

The youth will read out-loud in two hour shifts on rotating teams; each team, when they rotate, will pick up in the Bible where the previous team left off. We will see how far from Matthew 1 the youth can get with 15 hours to read.  Learn more or pledge here!

We will announce how far the youth were able to read in church on June 10! If you have any questions, please email Adam at [email protected] .
The Barths Need Help Moving!

Adam and Alysia are looking for a few volunteers willing to help them load up their moving truck on Sunday, June 17 after church. Pizza and beer will be offered! Let Adam know if you can help at
Upcoming Events from the Central Atlantic Conference’s
LQBTQ Network

On Wednesday, June 6 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, UCC Seneca Valley in Germantown, MD (13421 Clopper Road) is hosting a discussion on gender and why and how it matters, especially for those who continue to provide open and affirming congregations.

Cleveland Park UCC (3400 Lowell St, NW) is hosting a PRIDE Week Movie Night on Wednesday, June 6 at 7:00 pm. Attendees will view and discuss “Check It,” a documentary that follows a group of African-American gay and transgender youth in one of Washington, DC’s most violent neighborhoods, who started their own street gang for protection after being subjected to constant torment and assault.
Chaperones Needed for Youth Mission Trip

Westmoreland youth will be traveling to Hazard, Kentucky to work with the Housing Development Alliance from June 24-30, 2018, and they are in need of one male and one female chaperone! We encourage you to take this opportunity to get to know these wonderful people who will soon become the next leaders of our church! Email Adam ([email protected]) for more information.
Summer Vacation Hours - Help Needed!

Samantha Steinfeld, our Office Administrator and Communications Coordinator, will be on vacation from Wednesday, June 27, 2018 to Wednesday, July 11, 2018. She will return to Westmoreland on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

We are looking for a group of volunteers who would be willing to run the Church Office for a few hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday while Samantha is away. They would be responsible for opening the office, greeting visitors, answering the phones, sorting the mail, and assisting Tim with simple tasks.

If you would be willing to volunteer, please click here to learn more and to sign-up! Contact Samantha ([email protected]) for more information.
Wonder, Wow & Wisdom:

We are beginning something new, and you are invited to take part!

It’s called Wonder, Wow & Wisdom: Spiritual Tidbits from Westmoreland Church.

This new online experience will be a place to take a brief break, a place for spiritual refreshment, a place to pause, a place to think about the wonder of life, a place to ponder wisdom, a place to say, "Wow."

Here’s how it will work: occasionally (not daily or weekly, just occasionally), we will email out a spiritual tidbit. It may be a brief video, a short prayer, a photograph, or a link to a song.

In addition to the email, these tidbits will be a posted to the Wonder, Wow & Wisdom website and Facebook page. Go to the Wonder, Wow & Wisdom website for more information, or click here to sign-up for the emails!
