Youth Group
News

On the first and third Sundays of the month during the school year from 3:30-5 pm, our high schoolers gather to spend time with one another.

Our gatherings make space for getting to know one another and to explore our faith through times of fun and games, food and fellowship, and conversation and prayer. The High School Youth Group goes on retreats, spends extended time together in overnights at the church, and participates in mission trips.

Holly Clark, Anne Sedlack, and Peter Durin are the adults primarily involved with our high school youth group.

One of the most spiritually powerful features of life in an Episcopal seminary is the daily gathering in chapel for Morning and Evening Prayer, the Anglican reclaiming and simplification of the ancient monastic tradition of regular, ordered prayer in community.

As you may imagine, joining classmates and teachers morning after morning, evening after evening for this distinctive style of prayer, scripture and reflection builds a rhythm and a coherence to one's day...and one's life!  But it's not just for seminarians! We're all invited to use the gift of familiar, regular prayer, and many people find it a personal disciple of great power to practice at home or when away, as well as in church and chapel, of course.

This summer at St. Alban's, our new assistant rector, Holly Clark and our summer seminarian, Shawn Evelyn, both just weeks out of their seminary chapels, will lead us Monday thru Thursday in Morning Prayer. At nine o'clock the bell will ring, the candles will be lit, and two or three...or six or eight... will gather, open the Book of Common Prayer; and we'll start our summer days with the Word and prayer.

I'm going to try to join Holly and Shawn as often as I can M-Th at 9:00 AM in St. Alban's sanctuary, the consecrated space around God's good altar. Please join us!

Blessings,

An Invitation

An invitation to
Adult Confirmation!

St. Alban's is preparing for summer Confirmation classes for adults who wish to
  • deepen their belief,
  • engage more fully in the Episcopal tradition, and
  • freshen their commitment by a renewed understanding of  Christian faith.

Assistant Rector Holly Clark and Seminarian Shawn Evelyn will lead this five part series, and Rector Tim Boggs will join at the conclusion of the sessions.

Confirmation is an expression of adult commitment, through study, prayer, and dialogue. Confirmation is a sacred offering of the church and is blessed by the bishop's prayers and hands. Bishop Stephen Lane will preside in a special confirmation service October 18.

Confirmation is also for those who have been confirmed in another Christian denomination and wish to join more fully in the Episcopal understanding. Those from other denominations are "Received" into the Episcopal Church through the confirmation study. They, too, are blessed by the bishop.

If you are not baptized and are interested in being baptized and/or confirmed, please let us know. This offering may be for you. Baptism and Confirmation are not just for young folks! You are welcome and there's room for everyone!

The classes will be led by Shawn Evelyn and Holly Clark on Monday evenings from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at St. Alban's in the Upper Room on June 18, 25; July 9, 16, and 30 with a make-up day and Q&A session with Fr. Tim Boggs on August 13.

There will be a regional service of confirmation and music followed by a reception here at St. Alban's at 6:00 PM, October 18.

To sign up, please click here or RSVP to Shawn Evelyn at [email protected], speak with Shawn Evelyn or Holly Clark, or sign up on the clipboard in Bonoff Hall to get your name on the class list.

Enriching Our Worship Continues!
St. Alban's has begun a parish-wide project to enhance and celebrate
our liturgy, worship and music for all ages and for all the seasons ahead.

And what a great beginning!
  • A group of nearly 60 parishioners spent most of Saturday, May 5 th with a wonderful guide, Ellen Johnston--director of The Center on Liturgy and Music at Virginia Episcopal Seminary. We shared laughter and song as we worked and prayed to imagine how to enhance our worship together. So many constructive, creative, fun and faithful ideas were joyfully raised!
  • Since then, a working team of twenty has been digging into three key topics: the content of worship and music, the dreams for children's worship, and the options for organs and instruments...all in hopes of discerning how we might strengthen our beloved worship and music.
  • During this formative time, please reach out to any of the committee members to let us know what you love about our worship and what you might want to enhance in the seasons to come.
  • Please feel free to share your thoughts and dreams with your Enriching our Worship Working Group by email at [email protected] Or, if you'd prefer, Fr. Tim and/or Jim Strand will confidentially listen to any worship ideas you have!
To keep you in the loop, Notes from meetings and other resources can be found on the parish website.
