Postcards of love to our friends around the world!
Quote of the Week
The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tides, and gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, we shall have discovered fire."

This past Sunday grades 1st-6th, lead by Beth Callaway, joined together to learn about and share their love with refugees around the world.

We learned about the refugees of today and recalled refugees from the Bible.

Then we took action to let our global neighbors know they are loved. We created a stack of postcards that will be sent to the Jesuit Refugee Service who will then distribute them to refugee children in camps across the world.

Our children poured out love, concern, and hope through these postcards.
As I watched them I was reminded of the love and respect for all humanity that we are all called into through our Baptismal Covenant.
All are invited to join us as we live into this call.

Bring a postcard this Sunday, 4/30, with a simple message, and give it to Beth Callaway or Katie Holicky.

I hope you have had a Bernie in your life.

I hope your life has included a friend and mentor
like Bernard Sorkin who guided me with grace and joy (and an occasional kick in the rear) for the twenty years of my corporate life and then some. I loved him. His gifts to me were undeserved and largely unasked for, but certainly and completely unmatched.

I hope you've had a Bernie, someone who has seen more in you than you saw in yourself. When I was intellectually lazy, Bernie would insist that I stretch. When I was certain of a course of action, Bernie would ask, "Why?" and "Why?" again. When I did well, Bernie would say, "Nicely done." Bernie has died and those who love him will gather in New York on Sunday for remembrances and prayers. I must be there. So I will fly down in the morning and back in the afternoon. Our Sunday worship will be led by our friend, the Rev. David Illingworth, as Reed+ is serving this week at St. Peter's.

Please give David your encouragement and attention. I'll be back for our full staff retreat May 1st.  And do say a prayer fro Bernie.
Blessings,

Message from the Senior Warden
Dear Friends
As the welcomed grip of spring makes its way into our lives, I want to take a moment to invite you to a special evening.

By now, I'm sure you have all seen the signs and FaceBook posts about our parish event on  Saturday, May 6th featuring Maine's own Tim Sample.   This will be a fun evening of laughter and Maine humor.  For anyone who's from "away" - you are in for a treat! (In full disclosure, I'm considered from away..even though I've lived in Maine my whole life, the fact that I was born in New Hampshire , which technically makes me from "away" ..and according to Tim Sample - "If my cat had kittens in the oven, I wouldn't call 'em biscuits..")

Our goal for this evening of fun is to raise $2000.   The proceeds for this event will go far and wide within our parish, supporting all of our ministries that are a vital part of the important work each and every one of you carry out every day.

We hope to fill the house on  May 6th, I hope many of you will come.  For families, friends and co-workers, this show will be a wonderful evening.

Please see a vestry member at church this Sunday or feel free to call the parish office to reserve your ticket.  Your generous support for this evening and supporting our St. Alban's mission  is very much appreciated.

All are welcome for an evening of humor and fun!
