It was my delight this last Sunday to be drawn vividly into the story of Baptism; Jesus', my own, and that of our preacher, Katie Holicky. I know from your laughter and knowing head-nods during her sermon that many of you were brought to life just as I was by Katie's recollections and invitation. And then we splashed that water!

I also realized from many comments afterwards that Katie deserved a more robust invitation. While to some of you she is well known, her role among us often keeps her hidden. No, she is not just here during sabbatical, praise God! So I'd like to follow up her time in the pulpit on Sunday with a "re-introduction" to Katie, including a little of what I've been blessed to learn by sharing an office with her.

Katie Holicky, M.Div. has been walking with God since long before that day of her baptism. Before she was told about "God," her spirit was so full that she prayed anyway, just using a different name for God. Once she found out about church, she leapt right in, as you heard, and her gifts for leadership have steadily grown. Katie directed youth and children's ministries for a growing Methodist church while earning her bachelors degree in Religious studies, and then crossed cultures to lead curriculum creation for the United Church of India (in Boston!) while earning her Master of Divinity. She also trained as a Spiritual Director during that time and was the head of student liturgical preparation at her seminary chapel! (a particularly dynamic chapel, by inter-seminary rumor!)

Katie wasn't seeking ordination alongside her M.Div., but in fact, besides a hospital chaplaincy stint, she has all the same training as myself and Father Tim. She brings all that rich experience right here into the midst of us, guiding our blessed children. Katie is now, and has been since September, St. Alban's Minister of Children's Formation. I, and all our parents and children, have seen in her the deep-rooted and well-watered gifts of prayer, kindness, invitation, encouragement, and holy tenacity.

And so with personal apologies for the unnecessary delay, I am joyful to share that even if Sunday was the first time you saw Katie stand in her full self and gifts, it will not be the last! I've invited her "up front" during the announcements the next two weeks to be sure you get to meet her. Please do join me in re-welcoming (our own!) Katie Holicky.

In Christ,

Stewardship

2017 Stewardship Update - A Special Invitation

Thank you to those who have responded to the Stewardship Committee's appeal this week to consider increasing what you've pledged for 2017.  So far 29 families have increased their pledge, bringing in an additional $6,824.  This is a good and great start in trying to reduce the projected gap in the budget.

We again invite everyone to join in this effort.  Click here to take a look at the email sent by the Stewardship Committee explaining the need, and please consider increasing your pledge either by emailing the committee directly (  [email protected] ) or dropping a card in the green box on the table in Bonoff Hall.

Making A Difference

J ubilee Center/Essentials Pantry

The warm winter wear that was donated have grateful, and warm, new owners now, thanks to you, our caring congregation that kept the blue box and straw baskets filled throughout Advent and Christmas.

Newcomers to the Pantry line up  for coats and boots, so please continue to donate what you don't need or no longer fits.

In addition to the need for winter clothing and small household items and appliances, when you travel this winter, consider bringing home a handful of the little bottles of unopened hotel toiletries and bars of soap for the Pantry.  These little "luxuries" that you don't need, go a long way to delight guests at the Pantry.
We are happy to announce our Ministry partnership with

Adult Formation
Dreams aren't just for adults. Dreams are a regular part of every child's life and a powerful resource for parents.  Apparently, children begin to dream about age two. Giving your child your full attention and allowing them to tell their own dream is a powerful way of building your relationship with them. They'll feel supported by your interest while at the same time gain skill at story telling. In addition, while telling dreams your child will also gain an increased capacity for accessing their feelings and expressing themselves.
There will be a Dream Study Group
offered during Lent
Beginning March 5 through Palm Sunday
The group will meet at the church
