Let us join our Presiding Bishop in prayer for the victims of the violence in Manchester, England - those who lost their lives, those whose lives will forever be changed.

Quote of the Week
Compassion asks us to go where it hurts, to enter into the places of pain, to share in brokenness, fear, confusion, and anguish. Compassion challenges us to cry out with those in misery, to mourn, to weep with those in tears. Compassion asks us to be vulnerable with the vulnerable. Compassion invites immersion in the condition of being human.

Here's a rich experience for those who would like a calm, candle-lit way to start their week.

Come for the quiet; come for the music. Come.

This week we have been reminded again, "This is a world where terrible things happen and wonderful things too. It is a world of deep darkness and flickering starlight. It is a world where goodness is pitted against evil, love against hate, order against chaos, in a great struggle," as Frederick Buechner preached.
In Eastertide we especially hold tight to the truth that pain, suffering, and loss, even to death, are part of the story, but not the end of the story. We know that somehow the often flickering, yet always creative light of God comes into the world, again and again.
We know that we hold the stark contrasts of the world in our hands, and we wonder. Memorial days are literally days of memory, and we always start by remembering those who have sacrificed for the good hopes of God's people. This year we remember also those who are sacrificing still, often lost to the senselessness of endless wars fought tragically in battlefields and concert halls.
As Christians we know that death is not the end of the story; that light and life anew appear again and, that with our work and prayers, God's peace can break through, in small ways and immense ones. This resurrection spirit
is the energy for a rebirth of this life. This crazy hope doesn't point to another world. It is focused on the redemption of this one. It is the creative expectation of God's peace, Christ's love, coming into our histories, our homes, our headlines, and our lives.
Shall we pray on this hope together, even through our tears?
Blessings and thanks,
