Dear Saint Rose Families,

Today I had the opportunity to visit our 6th graders at Camp Michindoh. The students were in great spirits as they recounted their ability to build fires, tie dye t shirts, act out skits and more.  A group was working on solving a low ropes challenge of getting members from one platform to the other without touching the ground.  It was challenging and tested their social and critical thinking skills.  While they were frustrated with the challenge they were never frustrated with each other.  It was a great experience. Tonight they have a square dance and tomorrow they will come home.

Our 7th graders were on retreat at the 577 today. The retreat is hosted by the Culture Project and focused on theology of the body. Tomorrow our 8th graders will visit the Toledo Museum of Art.  Each grade visits the museum each year.  They will also mime the Stations of the Cross for our school community during the day and then for our parish community in the evening.  It is a great way for our students to enter into Holy Week.  Last week 3rd grade celebrated culture day by sharing their research and food from the country they researched.

Our students spend a lot of time in a traditional school setting.  They sit at desks, complete worksheets, labs, take tests, learn to write papers, work with others and more.   They also do a lot of learning outside of the classroom.  Often the skills learned in the classroom are practiced in these real world settings.  The two areas compliment each other. It makes for a wonderful formation experience as our students participate in their education at Saint Rose.

Please remember that Mass times are different this week as we celebrate Palm Sunday. I hope that you have a fulfilling Holy Week and wonderful Easter.

Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

SAC is a working committee, and outside of its regularly scheduled meetings, lay members serve as liaisons with other parish committees, as well as assume responsibility and direction over many aspects of the parent component of the Saint Rose School's strategic plan. Its members serve as Advocates for Saint Rose School, as well as proponents of Catholic education.

MIMED STATIONS OF THE CROSS

On Friday, March 23 the eighth graders will present the Mimed Stations of the Cross in church at 1:45 pm, 2:30 pm, and 7:00 pm.  All presentations are open to the public.

Friday's Mimed Stations of the Cross is a reverent experience of the Passion.  Come pray with the children as they experience the Paschal Mystery.

HOLY THURSDAY PILGRIMAGE TO SEVEN CHURCHES

At the end of the Holy Thursday liturgy, the Blessed Sacrament is removed from the main tabernacle and "reposed" in a side tabernacle in remembrance of Jesus' arrest.  The Roman Missal states, "The faithful are invited to continue adoration before the Blessed Sacrament for a suitable length of time during the night, according to circumstance."

A Catholic custom in many parts of the world is to visit the altars of repose at Seven Churches.  In Rome, this is somewhat easy as there are over 300 churches in the city!

Last year, Saint Rose Parishioners gathered after our Holy Thursday parish liturgy for a prayerful pilgrimage to six other churches to pray at the altars of repose.  We are once again offering this opportunity.  We will pray at the Saint Rose altar of repose and then proceed on a planned route to the other churches.

What a wonderful opportunity for families to pray together and explore the Church in NW Ohio.  Please contact Anne Brahier at <  [email protected]> if you are interested in participating.   You may drive yourself in your own vehicle or carpooling will be available.  If there is sufficient interest, we can investigate a bus or large van.   Thank you.

Run for the (Saint) Roses Update

Thank you for the generous response to the Lenten mission collection for our Saint Rose School in Haiti!

As of March 21, our total was $3216.07. We collected 189% of our goal of $1700!!  This includes over $300 profit from the hot chocolate sale that Student Council sponsored as well as $561 from Juanita Londono, who created and sold flowers made from recycled material! What generous hearts!

After Easter we will report how the homerooms decided to use their money -- on seeds, roof repair, tuition, or a goat.

If your child forgot to bring in their money, please send it to the office in an envelope marked with "Haiti" and the child's grade and homeroom.

May God bless you for your generosity!

After school tutoring and individualize homework help:

Does your student have challenges in specific subjects or could just use some one-on-one assistance completing their homework? St. Rose is looking into putting a tutoring and homework help program in which we'd pair 7 th & 8 th grade students with K-5 th grade students who need assistance after school. Supervised under the Extended Day program, students would stay after school and be paired with an older student who would give them individualized academic help.

*Please note this program will be subject to registration and availability of tutors.

Service Hours for After School Tutors:
Our new tutoring program is looking 7 th & 8 th grade students interested in earning service hours through providing individualized homework help & tutoring to our younger students. Supervised under the Extended Day program, students would stay after school and be paired with a student who needs assistance.

*Please note this program will be subject to need of volunteers and registration of families for tutoring.
