Dear Saint Rose Families,

I hope that you had a wonderful Easter with your family and friends. This week Fr. George celebrated Mass and spoke about all of the different symbols in our church that represent the Easter Season.  The students did a great job of identifying the Easter Lilies, the white robe on the Cross and many other symbols that will grace our church for the fifty days of the Easter Season.
Sincerely,
Bryon Borgelt

Thank You
Thank you to our community for signing in at the office upon visiting the school. Thank you for wearing visitor stickers.  I reminded our students and faculty that they are not to open the door for anyone. All visitors need to be buzzed into the office and get a guest pass.  Thank you for aiding us in this security measure.

Counselor's Corner                    March  2018

This month's lesson will focus on the Lifeskill of CARING. Students focused on many different ways to show care in the classroom, at home, and in their community.

Guidance Lesson Recap:
Grade K: As a class, we read the story The Bear Who Shared by Catherine Rayner. The story focused on positive ways to show care toward others. From working together to sharing things that we have, the story provided many real life examples of how to show care toward others.

Grades 1: We read the story Loud Lula by Katy S. Duffield. The story was about a little girl who had a hard time using her inside voice at school. As a class, we discussed many ways to show care, including how our actions affect other people. We discussed how sometimes being too loud in class can cause distractions in others' learning. The students came up with many great ideas in how to show care toward everyone.

Grade 2/3: We read the story The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright and Jim Field. The story was about a Koala who worried about trying new things. As a class, we talked about things that make us all worried at times and how to show care for a friend during those times.

Grades 4/5: We read the story You're Not My Best Friend Anymore by Charlotte Pomerantz. The story was about a friendship and the common disagreements that happen during time. As a class, we talked about many ways to resolve conflict in a caring and respectful manner. We also talked about many ways to show care at school as well.

Grades 6-8: As a class, we learned about various types of disabilities. We talked about how it is important to show care, empathy, and patience toward everyone, even if they may be different than you. Students then had the opportunity to understand what various disabilities may be like. The students gained a new understanding that many people have different challenges in life and it is important to show care and compassion to all.

I hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends during their Easter break!

After school tutoring and individualize homework help:

Does your student have challenges in specific subjects or could just use some one-on-one assistance completing their homework? St. Rose is looking into putting a tutoring and homework help program in which we'd pair 7 th & 8 th grade students with K-5 th grade students who need assistance after school. Supervised under the Extended Day program, students would stay after school and be paired with an older student who would give them individualized academic help.

*Please note this program will be subject to registration and availability of tutors.

Service Hours for After School Tutors:
Our new tutoring program is looking 7 th & 8 th grade students interested in earning service hours through providing individualized homework help & tutoring to our younger students. Supervised under the Extended Day program, students would stay after school and be paired with a student who needs assistance.

*Please note this program will be subject to need of volunteers and registration of families for tutoring.
