Counselor's Corner
March 2018
This month's lesson will focus on the Lifeskill of CARING. Students focused on many different ways to show care in the classroom, at home, and in their community.
Guidance Lesson Recap:
Grade K: As a class, we read the story
The Bear Who Shared by Catherine Rayner. The story focused on positive ways to show care toward others. From working together to sharing things that we have, the story provided many real life examples of how to show care toward others.
Grades 1: We read the story
Loud Lula by Katy S. Duffield. The story was about a little girl who had a hard time using her inside voice at school. As a class, we discussed many ways to show care, including how our actions affect other people. We discussed how sometimes being too loud in class can cause distractions in others' learning. The students came up with many great ideas in how to show care toward everyone.
Grade 2/3: We read the story
The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright and Jim Field. The story was about a Koala who worried about trying new things. As a class, we talked about things that make us all worried at times and how to show care for a friend during those times.
Grades 4/5: We read the story
You're Not My Best Friend Anymore by Charlotte Pomerantz. The story was about a friendship and the common disagreements that happen during time. As a class, we talked about many ways to resolve conflict in a caring and respectful manner. We also talked about many ways to show care at school as well.
Grades 6-8: As a class, we learned about various types of disabilities. We talked about how it is important to show care, empathy, and patience toward everyone, even if they may be different than you. Students then had the opportunity to understand what various disabilities may be like. The students gained a new understanding that many people have different challenges in life and it is important to show care and compassion to all.
I hope everyone enjoyed time with family and friends during their Easter break!
