ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!

Dear Saint Rose Families,

Lent began yesterday with Ash Wednesday.  It was also Valentine's Day, which presented a bit of a challenge for Catholics as the spirit of Valentine's Day and the sanctity of Ash Wednesday demonstrate some conflicting aspects.  Our students celebrated Valentine's Day on Tuesday with parties, treats, candy grams and Valentine's.  It was a great day and seemed to be a good match for Fat Tuesday. Yesterday at Mass Fr. George shared his observation that Va-LENT-ine's Day has the word Lent right inside of it.  A great observation since it has been 70 some years since Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day were on the same day.  We had a wonderful Mass and a great start to our Lenten season.  We have plenty of plans to help deepen the faith of our students  during Lent.  School wide we are focused on a mission collection for our sister school St. Rose of Ferrier in Haiti. Students in grades K-8 will participate in our annual campus exchange with Queen of Apostles School in Toledo.  Together our students will work on different service projects. Our 8th graders have been preparing for Confirmation all year and during Lent they will be confirmed at Rosary Cathedral. Our 8th graders will also mime the Stations of the Cross for our community.
I hope that you have a prayerful and meaningful Lent.
Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

Run for the (Saint) Roses

As we begin our 40 days of Lent, we are reminded to increase our prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

For our school's collective almsgiving and in conjunction with the 150th birthday celebration of our school, we are designating our sister school, Saint Rose of Ferrier, Haiti as the recipient of our Lenten donations.

The theme is "Run for the (Saint) Roses".   Each homeroom will have its own monetary goal, based on the number of students in the class.  The goal will be $5 per child, though we will not be keeping track of individual offerings.  We will encourage students and families to be generous beyond that amount, but the class goal is based on $5 per student.  Each homeroom will be able to designate how their class donation is used.  More details to follow.

Each week we will include information about Saint Rose of Haiti in this electronic communication so that families can also be informed.  We encourage students to "earn" their donations to the extent possible through extra chores or sharing of gift money.

Students are encouraged to make a weekly donation on the day of Mass.
Thank you for your generosity.

On Tuesday, February 27, Sylvania Franciscan Sister Fidelis will speak to children in grade K-8 about her experiences at Saint Rose School of Ferrier, Haiti.
Parents are welcome to attend!   The presentations will be in the church.
