Hey Everybody,

Last weekend, my advanced students were talking about being in the "cosmic grinder."

Today one of my clients said the tension had gotten so bad, she felt "stress-drunk."  She could feel the stress shutting down her brain, just like a stiff drink.

So much of our stress is tied to emotionally holding-on-- to outmoded ideas, to people who are out-of-sync with our lives, to situations that smother us.
chicken alley This past week, Andrew and I were in Asheville, NC working with our business coach (more about our time with Christine in the article below).

She sent us out for a walk so that we could begin envisioning 2013.

As I strolled the unfamiliar streets, I started singing Fleetwood Mac's Landslide under my breath.

I always pay attention when I sing something that is neither a favorite song nor something I've heard recently:

I've been afraid of changing 'cause I built my life around you, but time makes you bolder even children get older, I'm getting older too.

As I sang "I've been afraid of changing," I walked by Chicken Alley.  I kid you not:  Chicken Alley.

So I asked myself:  where have I been chicken about this year?  What am I scared of changing?

Ask yourself (and if you're feeling brave, go to Herbiary's facebook page and let me know!).

Then, as we move toward Thanksgiving, join me in giving thanks.

This year I am grateful for all the love in my life that supports me through my changes and is big enough to keep me from being a chicken as I envision 2013.
Learning to be Human

Maia with Christine Kane
After teaching all day, my business coach, Christine Kane, hangs out so that we can each snap a photo with her.

See that smile?

She nails it every time.

As I waited for Andrew to turn his phone into a camera, I asked Christine how she did it, how she remained genuine photo after photo.

She told me that she lets her heart shine through each time the camera is pointed at her.

One of my Cherokee teachers once told me that our job, during this Earth-walk, is to learn to be human....
