National Market Summary:

Jefferson City, MO Fri April 11, 2014 USDA-MO Dept of Ag Market News 

Compared to last week, steers calves sold steady to 2.00 lower and heifer calves steady to 2.00 higher. A light test of true yearlings sold mostly steady. Calf markets around the state were very uneven with local auctions having instances ranging from 15.00 lower to 10.00 higher. This week’s supply still considered moderate, but numbers were much less than the previous week. Condition continues to be a major driver in the market. Buyers are still willing to go to battle when good sized drafts of grass ready cattle enter the ring. Several reporters have noted many grass orders have been filled and much attention is shifting from cattle to crops as field work is getting under way. Overall supply is becoming much more typical of the time of year. Smaller drafts with perhaps with a touch more flesh and a touch less quality making up most of the offerings, as many of the reputation cattle in the most desirable condition have already went through the markets and are well along with getting settled into their summer homes. Feedlot trade has yet to develop as of 8:00 a.m. Friday.
