Heritage Singers Dress Rehearsal
The traditional Christmas Concert rehearsal for 2nd-8th grade Heritage Singers this year will be on Tuesday morning, Dec. 20 from 8:45 AM to 11:30 AM. The Before School Program and PK-1st grade will resume as scheduled.

Concert Arrival
The Christmas Concert will be Tuesday night, Dec. 20 from 7-8pm. Students need to arrive at 6:30pm. All participating students should put coats in their lockers, non-band students should meet in their homerooms and all band students should meet in the gym at 6:30pm.

Dress Code
Students are required to "dress-up" for this performance. Girls should wear dresses, skirts, or dress slacks in accordance with the school dress code (refer to the Parent/Student Handbook). Boys should wear collared shirts (button down is preferred) and dress pants (including khakis). Please, no blue jeans or tennis shoes.
Important: 5th-8th grade students will receive a discipline slip if they do not meet dress code for this performance; for all other students, parents will be notified.

While the performance includes 2nd-8th grade students, all families are encouraged to attend to celebrate the birth of our Savior!

Lunch Server Needed on Mondays

We are looking for a lunch server to help out on Mondays starting after Christmas break. The time commitment is roughly 1 1/2 hours from 11am to 12:30pm. Serving lunch is a great way to get to know the students and teachers! If you are interested in helping out or would like more information, contact Brenda Wichhart, wichhartb@hcs-nl.com, 626-4777.

Winter weather is bearing down on us!  Just a reminder of a few items as we anticipate the possibility of snow and cold temperatures:
  1. When checking for closures/delays, please look specifically for information on Heritage Christian School. While our decisions are often the same as Iowa City School District and Clear Creek Amana, they are not ALWAYS the same.
  2. Decisions to delay or cancel will be made no later than 6:30 AM. If it is determined that a late start is necessary, please continue to watch the news. If weather conditions do not improve, school will be cancelled by 8:30 AM.
  3. In the event of early dismissal due to weather or other emergency, parents will be called to ensure notification is made.
  4. Please make attendance decisions you are comfortable with.  If you are concerned about traveling when driving conditions are poor or it is brutally cold, please make personal decisions accordingly.
  5. With a delayed start, please arrive between 9:45-9:55am.  Classes will begin at 10:00am.
  6. When driving conditions are poor and school IS in session, we will not count students tardy allowing parents necessary travel time.
  7. Heritage Christian School does not close for cold temperatures.
  8. Please check KCRG, KGAN, KWWL, local radio AM 800 and the Heritage Christian School Facebook page for inclement weather information.
Read the full inclement weather procedures on the website here.
The Heritage 7/8 grade girls came out with some pressure to start the season against Central Lutheran School on Monday.  The press caused early turnovers for CLS that resulted in some layups for HCS.  The Eagles took an early lead and held on for a 29-21 victory.  It was an exciting start to the basketball season.
The Boys JV Eagles had a slower start than hoped in their first half of the game on Monday the 12th of December.  The JV is 11 members strong with 7 of the men hailing from the 5th grade and some with this being their first organized basketball game.  The team banded together after falling behind by 9 in the first half; but after some half time adjustments played toe to toe with the Central Lutheran Cougars tying the second half, but ending the game with a loss 18 to 27.  Every man contributed and we learned much as a team and are excited about the next opportunity to play.  The JV is focused on improving fundamentals, playing hard and having fun.  We reward those who play hard.  Zachary Ahrens led the team with rebounds and was honored for this achievement with "above the ring of dough" doughnut award and Trey Schweitzer was recognized as the most aggressive Eagle for this game for his steals, tie ups, getting on the floor and being scrappy and won the "on the ball" donut hole award.  The 6th graders fantastic four brought leadership and determination to the game.

The 7/8th Grade Boys Basketball team started the season with an intense game against the Central Lutheran Cougars. The Eagles and Cougars traded baskets for most of the game until the Cougars broke away by six in the third quarter. Thanks to a few fast breaks and a strong defense, the Eagles were able to fight back, forcing the game into overtime. Gaining a quick lead in overtime, the Eagles soared to victory with a 32-24 win over Central Lutheran.
