TEEU strike threat over apprenticeship fee withdrawn
Threatened strike action by the TEEU for the construction and electrical/mechanical contracting sectors over the student apprenticeship charge has been withdrawn. The Minister for Education extended an invitation to meet to discuss the issue with the union this month, pending the outcome of the meeting, the threat of industrial action has been withdrawn.

Prior to January 2014 the apprenticeship charge  was paid by the State , however since that date the responsibility for paying the fee was placed back onto students.
Employers in some industries such as pharmaceutical, had taken on the payment since January however there has been a mixed response from other industries. The TEEU are seeking either a return to having it paid completely by the State, or to have all employers take on the responsibility.  For further information in regards this topic contact  deirdre@isme.ie
