United Way Leaders & Legends Luncheon

Wednesday, April 19
Thank You United Way of Greater Cincinnati for Standing United with the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati, for your grant support of ICGC Rahma Social Services and now for recognizing board chair Shakila T Ahmad's community leadership and efforts to promote diversity at the Leaders & Legends luncheon on April 19.

ICGC Community: Please let the office know asap if you would like to join the Islamic Center table at the April 19 United Way event at Duke Energy. Tickets are $50 and can be paid to ICGC by contacting the office.

Over the weekend, the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati received a bomb threat and was the target of hate.  This act is unfair, unjust and does not represent the feelings of the entire community.

Such acts of hate and violence should not be tolerated.  United Way of Greater Cincinnati stands united in our efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.  We invite you to join us in intentionally embracing our differences, as well as focusing on how much we have in common.

Ms. Shakila  Ahmad, President of the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati and a United Way of Greater Cincinnati Board Member, had this to say in response to the incident. "ICGC is concerned, but we will not be intimidated. We ask Greater Cincinnati to stand alongside us in pursuing a community that welcomes love, kindness and compassion as our Quran teaches. When you hear racist comments, firmly declare that's not acceptable in Greater Cincinnati."

We stand in solidarity with the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati and all who are affected by this display of prejudice.  We will continue to work to build a community where ALL can participate, prosper and reach their fullest potential.

We will honor Ms. Ahmad's community leadership and her efforts to promote diversity in our region on
April 19 at United Way's Leaders & Legends Luncheon.  We invite you to join us in celebrating Ms. Ahmad.

Additionally, we encourage you to actively explore ways to demonstrate how you can LIVE UNITED. To learn more or to register for events to learn about the Islamic faith, please visit:  http://cincinnatiislamiccenter.org/events-page/

Islamic Center In The News

Every community has a narra tive.  Either that community controls the narrative or the narrative cont rols the community. Now more than ever the American Muslim community has to take control of the narrative. This can only be achieved if as a community we are building bridges and inroads with media.  Media outlets want to cover stories and do pieces that people are interested in. They want viewers, readers, comments, and discussions.  It is critical that as a community we are more visible and more vocal in the media.

We have been blessed for wide and positive coverage of the Center.  When there is positive coverage we must all give feedback and acknowledge and appreciate the work of the media. Please take a few minutes to review the media links and give positive feedback where you feel comfortable.
