e Qur'an encourages us to think, reflect and ask questions, because faith based on knowledge and proper understanding is sound faith that can withstand tests and trials. We are tested and tried in our lives by God to examine our faith: we can patiently persevere and turn to God seeking his help and guidance, or we can reject faith in God, give up and despair. We have a free choice to make, hence we are responsible and accountable.
It is up to us to understand God's message and how to apply it in our life. Some adhere to the literal word, while others take into consideration the society they live in and apply God's orders accordingly. We need to listen to different interpretations and different points of view since collective opinions are more correct than the opinion of one individual.
The Qur'an revealed more than 1400 years ago outlined the guidelines of justice, freedom and accountability that are the foundations of the American constitution. Islam is viable and applicable in America and Europe, and there is no clash between Islam and Western democracy.
Understanding the Seerah in the context of the Qur'an
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) lived 15 centuries ago in a culture and environment that differs from ours today. How he reacted to events at his time, and how he solved problems constitutes his Seerah or life story. It is important to understand the Seerah in historical context, as well as in the context of the Qur'an. The Qur'an and the life story of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are intricately related. This way the lessons that we learn from his life story, example and his sayings can guide us today and in the future.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is an example to follow in his morals and noble character. He was kind, caring, forgiving, merciful, just, humble and wise. He was known for being truthful and trust-worthy. His people resisted his message of social justice because of political and economic reasons. Despite the difficulties that he faced, he patiently persevered and never lost hope in God.
The Prophet established the mosque as the focal point of activity, and made a bond of brotherhood between the immigrants and the Ansars (allies). He established a covenant of peaceful coexistence and cooperation between the Muslims and Jews of Madinah, in which the life, property of all and their religious freedom was safeguarded. The Qur'an provides guidelines regarding the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims, based on kindness and justice, and talking to each other and working together, and respecting their right to their faith and tradition, and not forcing anyone to Islam against their will.
It is our duty as Muslims in America to explain the noble character and life story of the Prophet (PBUH), and correct misconceptions about him and the Qur'an. This way we can guide to the truth, and let others judge for themselves the authenticity of the Qur'an and what we learn from God's messenger.
Understanding the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) in the context of the Qur'an
This book was written so that Muslims may understand the basic concepts in the Torah and how it relates to the Qur'an, and discover many similarities without minimizing differences. It also allows Jews reading this book to understand the Qur'anic point of view regarding the Children of Israel and their efforts and struggles. The Qur'an gives us guidelines that govern the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims. This book also discusses some of the misconceptions about Islam, the Qur'an and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how to clear these misconceptions.
Noble Character volume three
This books follows in the tradition of the first two volumes and describes how we apply our faith in our character & behavior. The importance of being active and productive and doing our work to the best of our ability is illustrated with verses from the Qur'an and Sunnah. Resolving differences and improving the relationship between people is one of the goals of people of faith. A righteous person does not hate or envy other people, rather he/she is kind, loving and just. Proper understanding of religion and wisdom is a blessing from God. It is our duty to spread useful knowledge. Diversity is willed by Allah so that we can listen to different points of view and learn from one another. Giving sincere advice is part of faith and should be done in a kind caring manner. Muslims have rights over other Muslims.

Every community has a narra
tive. Either that community controls the narrative or the narrative cont
rols the community. Now more than ever the American Muslim community has to take control of the narrative. This can only be achieved if as a community we are building bridges and inroads with media. Media outlets want to cover stories and do pieces that people are interested in. They want viewers, readers, comments, and discussions. It is critical that as a community we are more visible and more vocal in the media.
We have been blessed for wide and positive coverage of the Center. When there is positive coverage we must all give feedback and acknowledge and appreciate the work of the media. Please take a few minutes to review the media links and give positive feedback where you feel comfortable.
