Reflections
There aren't enough ways to thank you as a congregation for  the love  and support and encouragement you offer to me and to one another in times of need. But Paul does a great job in the first chapter of Colossians which just happens to be our lectionary text for Sunday.

I'm looking forward to expressing my gratitude to you for this sabbatical time and sharing with you about my sabbatical experiences. I appreciate the stories I have already heard from you about the ways you valued hearing from one another throughout my absence and on Laity Sunday, and the wonderful care you received from our clergy and our members.

worshiped  with a variety of churches in many traditions and must say (with no surprise here) that I deeply value what we are trying to accomplish each Sunday in worship. We want folks to sing in ways that reach heart and soul, we want to be challenged to think about God's work in the world today using Scripture and we want to pray together. I hope to see you Sunday as we attempt, once again, to honor God in all we say and do as a community of faith.

~glad to be "home", Nancy

ALL CHURCH CENTENNIAL COOK BOOK
We KNOW most of you don't cook all that much - but we also KNOW that some of you make great cakes, some of you specialize in all vegetarian dishes and some of you are Crock Pot Queens!  Please submit your favorite recipe, of any food category, by July 15. Send your recipe to Debbie Davis, [email protected] Judi Lord, [email protected] or Linda Carver, 2547A Stockbridge Drive, Charlotte NC 28210.

BUILDING & GROUNDS TEAM IS A BUSY CREW
The community garden continues to ramp up its production. So far, over 88 lbs. of produce has been contributed to Friendship Trays, whose mission is to deliver daily, in a caring and friendly manner, balanced meals to individuals in the community who are unable to obtain or prepare their own meals because of age or infirmity. Thanks to Ann Watkins and Joe McLelland for leading this important community ministry!  Youth from a neighboring summer camp program will be creating a scare crow, and helping to harvest the bounty on Friday, followed by a guided tour of the trails by John Rapp. Bill Hildebrand keeps the Memorial Garden looking tip top. Electricians are busy connecting power to the garden this week.  Way to go team!

JOHNS RIVER VALLEY CAMP
It's not too late to register for summer camps at Johns River Valley Camp If you know a rising 3rd grader, you should make them aware of this narrow window to experience a sampling of Johns River Valley Camp.  Campers enjoy a half week of traditional camp activities (crafts, aquatics, hikes, stories, games, vespers, campfires) under the direction of two superb leaders, Sue Howell (Warwick UCC) and Rev. Jim Humphrey (retired).  In addition to above highlighted activities, campers will explore implications of "Fearless Faith:  Courage in Community."  On-line Registration available for all JRVC summer camps

SOJOURNERS CLASS
The Sojourners welcomed a new young lady from New Hampshire to our class last Sunday. Sarah is planning to attend UNCC for graduate school and has been writing elementary textbooks and lesson plans for schools in Kenya. Her fascinating story fit right in with our discussion of the book, Toxic Charity:  How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help. We only discussed up to page 34, and then we stopped to join Rev. Pat Conover in the Gathering Room, so, if you missed last Sunday, the class will pick up again on page 34. We hope you can join the Sojourners on July 10th to continue the journey. Come as you are-no preparation necessary!

BOOK CLUB
We will be meeting on Monday, *July 11*, at 1:30 pm at the Sharon campus. Our new choice is A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, an engaging and quick read! Barbara Schneller will be leading the discussion.  We will meet again on Monday, August 22, at 1:30 pm at the Sharon campus. Sue Pascucci will be selected the title for August, and she will notify the book club members and you as soon as she has made a choice.

2016 PRIDE FESTIVAL PARTICIPANTS NEEDED
Charlotte PRIDE, the third-largest LGBTQ Pride organization in the American Southeast, will hold its annual festival August 19, 20 & 21. We need all members of Holy Covenant to volunteer in helping Holy Covenant be present throughout the weekend. Please contact Phil Kaveler to let him know when you can volunteer.  There will be a sign up sheet beginning July 10 in the Gathering Room.

SPECIAL OFFERING, CHRISTMAS IN JULY
On July 31, 2016, we will receive the UCC Christmas Fund offering to show appreciation for the many pastors who have helped carry our burdens. Many of these aging and retired pastors have served small churches in rural areas that simply do not have the means to financially support them once they retire. These dedicated men and women served selflessly, and we have a chance to give them the thanks they deserve.  This is the one time we are asked to match our appreciation with our resources for those who have retired from faithful service to the church. Please memo your offering "UCC Christmas Fund".
