Weekly News: October 20-24, 2014
In This Issue...

Flu season is here so please be sure to take your child for a flu shot. Also, if your child is sick, please keep him/her home to prevent spread of illness. Furthermore, we have had a few reported cases of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease, so if your child is exhibiting any symptoms of it, please keep him/her home until the fever, blisters, and illness is gone. Additionally, we have had a case of head lice so if your child has any lice, please treat him/her immediately and ensure there are no live lice before sending them back to school. We appreciate our parents informing us if their child has any contagious medical issues. Please continue to do so so we can advise our families accordingly.
Join Our Fundraising Committee

The school fundraising committee is looking to expand and welcomes new members who would like to assist with targeted fundraising to help expedite the second floor expansion. As you know, the second floor is still a shell and construction of classrooms has not yet begun. We are hoping to make a strong push so we can have at least 3 classrooms ready by August. We need people who are passionate about ILM and about providing their children with the best facilities possible! If you would like to help our board and fundraising committee with this, please respond to this email.

Picture Payments and Returns

Your children have taken home their pictures from picture day this week. Please follow the instructions in the package on how to purchase photos you want to keep and return photos you don't want. If you have any questions, you may contact Lifetouch directly at the contact information provided in the packages. Payments and picture returns are due by Friday, October 24.

The school is hosting a Coffee with the Principal on Friday, October 24 at 8:15am. All parents wishing to give feedback, share ideas for the growth of the school or even learn more about the school offerings are welcome to attend this informal group gathering. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by responding to this email so that we may make appropriate arrangements.
PE Uniforms

All students should have received their spirit shirts by now, which means all 1st-7th graders should from now on wear their spirit shirts to school every PE day (Mondays) as it is a part of their uniform. Their sweatpants on that day must be solid navy blue with no stripes or other designs.

Survey: Interested in a School Yearbook?

The school is looking into companies through which we can create our first ever ILM Academy yearbook. In order to know which company we can go with, we need to know if our families would be interested in purchasing a yearbook. Please click here to answer a 2-question survey about it in the next few days.
three Security Update

As a part of our ongoing commitment to safety, we have installed our Raptor visitor management system. This system scans visitors' driver's licenses, runs an automatic background check, and keeps track of who goes in and out of our building. In addition to this, with the completion of the construction of our atrium, we have a multi-checkpoint system, including several locked doors through which visitors must be buzzed in. Our current ECC and middle school building is always locked and no one other than authorized personnel are allowed in. When moving between the buildings, our students are always supervised by a staff member. Security cameras both inside and outside the buildings monitor and record activity so we view both current and prior occurrences to help maintain safety and security. We understand that our school is an open campus and there are times during the day our students are outside of the building and for that our staff has security protocol they must follow to ensure our students do not come in contact with any unauthorized personnel. We regularly review our security protocol and appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep the students safe by abiding by the same procedures.

Muffins with Moms

Every year, the ECC and Montessori classes hold a Muffins with Moms event in which parents are welcomed to attend class with their children, work with them, and then share breakfast together. This event is called "Muffins with Moms" but dads, aunts, uncles, or other relatives may come in place of the mom. (We will have a separate event titled "Breakfast with Babas" later in the year.) The Muffins with Moms for this year will be held on Friday, October 31 from about 8:15-9:15am. We look forward to seeing our moms there!
