News & Reminders for This Week
twoMontessori Hajj Play

The Montessori Hajj play will be this Friday at 8:15am. The Hajj play is open to all families to attend and is a play put on by all of the Montessori students to explain the steps and meaning of Hajj. It is also a great way to start out the Eid break!
PTA Meeting

All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend the first PTA meeting of the year. It will take place this Friday at approximately 9:30am, by when the Hajj play should end. Please attend to discuss the year, events to be done, etc.
Seeking Committees Members

We are looking for additional members to join our Accreditation Committee or Finance Committee. A committee is a branch off from our Advisory Panel (the school board). If you are interested, please respond to this email and we will discuss our needs and your qualifications to determine the best fit for the goals of the committees.
oneBullying Awareness Workshop: Notes

We held the bullying awareness workshop this past Friday morning. We appreciate all of the parents who came out, especially given the weather! You can review some quick notes from the workshop by clicking here. A couple of other good resources for parents, which were mentioned by the therapists leading the workshop, are www.stopbullying.gov and www.helpguide.org. These resources have also been added to the Resources section at the top of these Weekly News emails.
Is Your Child Interested in Taking Part in School Competitions?

Every year, our school competes in district wide competitions. In the past, we have competed in PSIA (mostly an academic math and writing competition) and our students have advanced to the state level. We have also competed in Odyssey of the Mind (a creative problem-solving competition), and our students have advanced to the world finals level. This year, we will also be competing in Math League

The Math League competition is coming up in on October 17, so we need to know if your child is interested in participating by this Tuesday. PSIA's district competition is in February and Odyssey's regional competition is on Saturday, March 5. You can learn more about these competitions by clicking on the links provided above.

Please note that all competitions have age limits and we, as a school, are limited in how many students we can accept into each category based on the number of coaches we have.  We are very limited on the number of coaches, so if you or someone you know would like to coach, please let us know. Please also email us if you have any questions about what coaching would entail. For now, be sure to fill out the above linked survey so we can collect student interest and move forward from there.
To Do
Order Karate Uniforms

Sensei Saif has checked your Montessori level 3 through 6th grade child(ren)'s karate uniform sizes. You will need to either purchase the uniform through him (a check payable to Samurai Karate Dojo for $35 with your child's name in the memo) or buy it elsewhere. If your child already has a uniform that fits, he/she should be bringing it to school every Tuesday to wear for class.
Sign Up for Parent-Teacher Conferencestodo

Conferences will be held on Monday, September 21. This is your opportunity to meet with all of your child(ren)'s teachers and discuss their progress. Each conference is 10 minutes and if you have multiple students with the same teacher (such as Arabic, IS, etc.), you may only sign up for one slot for all of the children. If no slots are available for one of your child's teachers, please contact her to set up another conference time. Sign ups are first come, first serve. Ask your child which Arabic teacher s/he has as there are multiple levels from 4th-8th grade (or email us to ask). There are no conferences with auxiliary teachers (such as PE, art, etc.) but you can set them on separate days if you wish. Find a list of your child's teachers here. Contact teachers directly via email here. Students may not attend the conferences.
