B e Respectful

Saint Mother Teresa was canonized a few days ago.  She understood the importance of respecting life in all its forms.  Her Nobel Lecture touched on this:
"And we read that in the Gospel very clearly - love as I have loved you - as I love you - as the Father has loved me, I love you - and the harder the Father loved him, he gave him to us, and how much we love one another, we, too, must give each other until it hurts. It is not enough for us to say: I love God, but I do not love my neighbour. St. John says you are a liar if you say you love God and you don't love your neighbour. How can you love God whom you do not see, if you do not love your neighbour whom you see, whom you touch, with whom you live."

Reflection and Prayer:
"Lord, let my actions be an example of love and respect.  Let no one ever come to me without leaving better and happier."

Fr. Tony taught the 7th and 8th grade students about Saint Teresa of Calcutta and the path to canonization.
Did you know?
Our parish helps to support families in Peru in many ways. Click here to see details.
Morning Mass Reflection:
Today our 1st-8th graders traveled to SJV for Mass with Padre Joe, concellebrated by Fr. Tony and Fr. Ken.
Padre Joe told some stories of Saint Mother Teresa's journey with the poor. Ask you children about the example her mother set for her and the story of her experience taking rice and beans to a woman.
He expressed gratitude to the St. Anthony and St. John Vianney communities for being his friends in helping the poor in Peru.
He encouraged the children to do the best they can as students, this is their mission, its preparation for the work they will do to change this world.
He repeated the message "It's all about doing something beautiful for God.

September 7, 2016
From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal

Dear Parents,

We had a great trip to St. John Vianney today! We celebrated Mass with fellow students, Padre Joe, Fr. Tony, and Fr. Knippel. After Mass, Padre Joe spent time talking to us about life in Peru for students and their families. We learned about their school, foods they eat, and sports the students play. Finally, we learned how important events like Paces for Peru and Pennies for Peru have been to their community.

Back here at St. Anthony, music classes will begin on Tuesday (9/13). Our music teacher's name is Ms. Chelsea Betz. Please join me in welcoming her to St. Anthony on the Lake School!

Also, please welcome back Mrs. Doll! Mrs. Doll will be back as a part-time resource teacher (Mondays and Wednesdays) beginning this week. She will be tag-teaming with Mrs. Guthrie to provide Reading and Math Resource help to our students. We are very excited to have Mrs. Guthrie and Mrs. Doll working together!

Blessings!

Mrs. Knippel

School News
Health Matters
Epi-Pens!!
Last year we had quite a few children who needed to have an epi-pen available in case of an emergency at school.  This year, there is only one - which makes us wonder if we are missing more.  If your child falls into this category, please send a spare epi-pen to school along with a completed Medication Authorization sheet.  Thank you!

Medications
All medications which need to be taken during the day must have a Medication Authorization sheet and the medications in the original container sent to the office.  This includes cough drops!  Some cough drops are OK to have in the classroom, but we can't tell from looking at them - they must be in the original package.  Thanks for helping us keep your children safe!

Moving Math Room
The Math room has moved! There just wasn't enough space (along with connectivity issues). Therefore, the Math and Resource rooms have been traded effective immediately.  The SmartBoard should be connected very soon!

G9 Penny Wars
Our school is hosting G9 Penny Wars from Monday 9/12/16 to Friday 9/16/16 to raise money for Gold In September® (G9), a childhood cancer non-profit dedicated to growing awareness, inspiring action, and raising funds to help every child, everywhere until cures for cancer are found.  Penny Wars is an easy, fun way to put spare change to good use and we know our students will have fun competing, while raising funds for this important cause.
HOW TO PLAY: On the day G9 Penny Wars begins, students put their pennies in the container belonging to their team. One point is received for every penny in the container. This continues for the duration of G9 Penny Wars.
" BLITZING": Students may put silver coins and paper currency into the containers of OTHER teams (known as "blitzing"). Each silver coin or paper bill reduces the number of points from that container by the amount of the coin or bill. For example, a nickel reduces the points by 5, a dime by 10, a dollar by 100, etc. This is where strategy counts. Have fun with it!  Send your coins and take action in supporting the G9
mission.  Every penny counts!
Gold in September Prayer Intentions Request
As part of our balloon release ceremony following the Gold in September Mass on September 21, we will be reading special intentions for those affected by cancer. If you would like to include the name of a friend or family member to be read during our ceremony, please email Ellen Knippel at [email protected] with the subject line "G9 Mass Prayer Intention Request" and include the name(s) you would like read in the body of the  email.

MAP Testing
Next week Monday (9/12) we will begin MAP testing in 5K-8th grade.  Please make sure the kids come to school well-rested and well-fed so they can perform at their best!
Birthday Blessing Mass
On Wednesday (9/14) we will have our first birthday blessing Mass for any students with August and September birthdays. For those of you who are new to St. Anthony, one Mass per month is designated Birthday Blessing. Students whose birthdays fall during that month (or months) process in with Fr. Tony and are called forth and blessed after communion. They also receive a gift from the school office. Students receiving the birthday blessing may also "dress up" on this day ( no jeans or sweats, please!).

Strengthening Parish Presence
~~"All are welcomed and all are welcoming"~~
Our school would like to showcase our wonderful students and families by increasing our visible presence within the parish community. To do this we are asking students (in uniform) and their families to volunteer to be greeters at Mass.  Each grade has been assigned one weekend for the school year.  A signup genius will be sent out prior to your child(ren)'s scheduled week. We hope to strengthen our parish presence through other activities this school year...more to come!

-Adult Small Group leaders are needed for the teen Bible Study during the class time for Sunday and Monday Family Programs.  This is a video based program with limited small group discussion afterward.  You don't have to be a Bible scholar but your role in facilitating discussion is very important AND you will be a part of Bible Study as well.  Contact the Faith Formation office at (262) 691-9170 if interested.

-Adult leaders and middle school youth helpers are needed for Children's Liturgy of the Word, which takes place during the 9:00 Mass. Please consider helping to lead our children for about 20 minutes during Mass. This is a gift to our young children so they hear the Word of God at their ability to understand it. Please reply on the website or email Debbie at [email protected] if you have any questions or wish to be part of this liturgical experience.

Classroom Corner
Ms. Wagner and Ms. Sellers combined forces last Friday and took advantage of the great weather in a community building activity!  The 3rd graders took their little 3K buddies on an adventure to the pond!

The walk was a long one for our 3K explorers so they decided to take a break for story time.

Ms. Sellers was so impressed with how gentle and kind the interaction was between the "buddies".  Great job 3rd graders!
