BID Annual Meeting Recap: Keynote Speaker Mayor Walsh & Preview Of BID Strategic Planning Efforts

Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh was the keynote speaker at the Downtown Boston BID's 2016 Annual Members Meeting, held at Boston Properties' Auditorium at 100 Federal Street last Wednesday.

Mayor Walsh (above) congratulated the BID's Board of Directors and staff for their work on the BID's strategic plan and thanked everyone for the role they play in helping to make Downtown Crossing thrive for generations to come. Mayor Walsh also spoke of the strong collaboration between the City and the BID and gave special praise to the work of Captain Ken Fong, Commander of BPD Area A-1. The Mayor also complimented the hardworking BID Ambassadors and encouraged them to keep up the good work.

Jack Spurr (above left), Chairman of the BID Board, congratulated the BID Board Members who were reelected: Emily Batchelder, Stacy Cawley, Jeff Cook, Christine Dunn, Richard Finn, Kathy Greenberg, Joe Larkin, Pam Messenger, and John Rattigan. He also welcomed a new BID Board Member, Paul Filtzer of Equity Office (below), and thanked outgoing BID Board Members John Murtha, GM of the Omni Parker House, and Mark Smith, Managing Partner at Equity Office

BID President/CEO Rosemarie Sansone (below) gave a status update on the BID's Strategic Plan and highlighted its goals for the next 12-18 months. The goals identified will continue to include the strong foundation laid by the BID's Clean, Safe and Welcoming program and further expand with Dynamic Public Realm, Economic Vitality, Compelling Brand, and Collaborative Social Services programs.

As Sansone explained, "We heard from many people throughout the 'discovery phase' of the strategic planning process. We listened to and engaged all voices, from Downtown property and business owners, to office tenants, residents, public safety directors, office managers, nonprofit organizations, theaters, educational institutions, and government officials. At the end of the day, the BID's strategic plan should reflect everyone. We thank everyone who has participated and look forward to continuing our work together as we refine the plan."
