Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

Last Thursday I had the honor of celebrating the work of the Parent Advisory Board with members of the Board and committee chairs. The Advisory Board oversees strategic initiatives and collaborates with committee chairs to implement tactical goals throughout the school year. These committees directly impact major school functions such as fundraisers, marketing, enrollment, budgeting, and technology, while promoting school spirit and preserving our Catholic identity. The significance of their work on school operations and school culture cannot be overstated and the leadership provided by the PAB and the standing committees are critical to the school's overall success.  I would like to thank the members of the Advisory Board and the committee chairs for their generous support for the St. Francis of Assisi School community.

Parent Advisory Board

PAB Committee Chairs
Katie Ward - Chair
Catholic Identity - Kirsten King
Bob Hamra
School Spirit - Michelle Leo/Teresa Bass
Jenn Bush
Enrollment - Tammy Clarida
Richard Pintang
Marketing - Tony Ward
Lisa Alonso
Development - Tawna Khamo
Mark Maricich
Finance - Robert Pechkis
Ann Cooper - Faculty Liaison
Technology - Bill Lodin

I would also like to thank Michelle Manzella and Michelle Molendyk for their extraordinary contributions in support of school fundraising.  Michelle Manzella coordinated the Fall Fest and Auction and Michelle Molendyk coordinates the SCRIP fundraising program. These activities are critical to the school's fiscal health. Their leadership generated the majority of the $125,000 generated by fundraising in 2017/2018.

These parents are wonderful examples of generosity - giving their time and talent to care for the needs of the entire school. In particular, I would like to recognize Richard Pintang who is finishing his term as a member of the PAB. Richard has served three years on the PAB providing valuable input on school operations, and strategic planning, as well as generously supporting school projects and activities. They are great examples of commitment and service to the St. Francis of Assisi School community.

It is difficult to express in words the depth of my appreciation for parents who serve our school so generously by selflessly contributing their time, talent, and resources to provide critical support for school projects, activities, and initiatives.  Their work contributed to a great school year and they build the foundation upon which our school thrives and moves forward.

Thank you to all parent, guardian, and grandparent volunteers. It is a privilege to work with you. I greatly appreciate your support!

Don't delay, sign up today! The link for Volunteer Opportunities for the 2018 - 2019 school year is now live on the  SFA website (under Support SFA /Volunteer).  It includes all of the school wide volunteer positions available for the coming school year.  Get a jump start on those service hours and register today for the opportunity that works for you! When the time is right, you will be contacted by the event chairperson to schedule your shifts. Please take a moment to check it out and sign up today!

Key positions taking place early in the school year and requiring attention include:  Kona Ice helpers, Fall fundraiser and Fall Fest volunteers. Want to make an immediate and lasting impact here at SFA? We are looking for key people to help Chair and oversee the following essential programs:  2019 Auction (will be shadowed by current chair), Development Chair, Box Tops Chair and Yearbook Editor. Have questions or want to discuss the opportunities in more detail, please reach out to Tammy Clarida for assistance.
Classroom related opportunities will become available when classes are assigned in August.  Every SFA family is required to complete twenty (20) Volunteer Service Hours each year. Families log their hours in the  Sycamore Parent Portal as they are completed.  Volunteer Service Hours began accumulating on April 1 for the 2018 - 2019 school year.
Mentor Families Needed
We are in need of Mentor Families. We all love our school and the wonderful community we have here at St. Francis. An important piece of that community is our Mentor Families. If you'd like to be a part of welcoming new families to the SFA community, we have the perfect opportunity for you! We are seeking families in all grades to be Mentors for our new families for the 2018-2019 school year. You don't need to possess an in-depth knowledge of everything about our school or have all the answers, just a willingness to share the warmth of our SFA community:
  • Email or phone your new SFA family in early August to welcome them and answer any questions they may have regarding uniforms, hot lunch program, carline etc.
  • Invite your new family and attend the New Parent Wine and Cheese Social on Thursday, August 23rd.
  • Be available to answer questions as the school year goes on and make sure they know about upcoming events like Trick, Treats, and Tacos and the Auction.
Our Mentor Families are important ambassadors to our school and truly represent the heart and soul of all that makes St. Francis special. We need loving, welcoming families to be a part of this ministry. It's a fun and easy way to get volunteer hours credit as well. If you would like to be a part of this special ministry please contact Lisa Bryson for more information or sign up on Volunteer Spot.
Fall Sports
Please look on the SFA website over the summer to see when football and volleyball tryouts will be taking place. Expect the first round of tryouts to take place the week before school begins ( Week of August 20).

St. Francis is looking for volunteer coaches for our fall season (football and girls volleyball). Please contact Coach Blake if you are interested in helping coach at St. Francis.

SFA On Social Media
Follow SFA on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay up to date on the latest school activities and life on campus.

Please be aware that with the end of the school year there will be more events than usual during these final days.  Parking laws and enforcement will be in place at all times throughout the school day.  That means:
  • NO parking on a red curb (unless directed by school personnel)
  • DO NOT move cones at designated spots
  • NO double parking
Also, during a surprise inspection by the Orange County Fire Department, it was noted that a number of cars were parked on the red curb after the conclusion of car line.  Again, parking on the red curb is NEVER ALLOWED without school personnel present.  This is for emergency access vehicles at any hour of the day, including after school activities.

Everyone's cooperation in following these rules is greatly appreciated.

Us In The Son Day Camp and Leadership Camp

Us in the Son Day Camp

Us in the Son is based on the qualities of the rainbow. Our campers are placed into color groups based on age -- purples are the youngest (Pre-K and K) and reds are the oldest (5th and 6th graders).

Throughout your child's time at camp they will learn the importance of these qualities, engage in a variety of activities, make new friends, and understand the meaning of God's love. A week at camp includes plenty of crafts, singing, and games at the church campus, as well as a trip to the park and beach!

Volunteering & Leadership Camp

Us in the Son Day Camp would like to invite all 7th-12th graders to join us for a summer of servant-ship! Being an Us in the Son volunteer is extremely rewarding and gives young teenagers great leadership opportunities and allows them to bond with the young campers. Throughout the summer we also offer special opportunities especially for our fabulous volunteers, such as Leadership Camp and "love-letter" writing parties. Leadership Camp is a thrilling weekend retreat in the mountains where volunteers  compete for the "Holy Grail" while learning valuable leadership skills that will become helpful during their week volunteering at Day Camp.
