Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Families,

As a parish school, St. Francis of Assisi School is an instrument for each parish to fulfill its fundamental mission to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.  We do this by teaching our faith to the youngest members of the church family.  Though accomplished within the context of an academic setting, it is the proclamation of our faith that is the reason why our school was established and the reason why it exists today.  There are many ways to demonstrate our Catholic identity, but one of my favorite activities that clearly reflects our mission as a Catholic school is May Crowning.

Last Thursday, we celebrated May Crowning with our 2nd grade students who only recently took a seat at the Lord's table through the sacrament of Holy Communion. This is one of the most treasured events of the school year and it is a special moment for our children and their parents.

May Crowning honors Mary with a procession of students dressed in their First Communion best, accompanied by our young guitar and ukulele musicians, a recitation of the Rosary, and crowning Mary's statue with roses.  The simple and reverent ceremony is a wonderful way for our school community to join our children on their faith journey.

Our beautiful children are a gift from God and preparing them to receive the Eucharist and honor Mary are joyous tasks.  All of this took place under the watchful eye and guiding hand of parish religious education staff and our second grade teachers, Mrs. Fernando and Mrs. Plaisted. Of course it starts at home, so I wish to thank our parents for planting and nurturing the seeds of faith at home.  And finally, I am grateful to the first grade parents for preparing the Seamus Glynn Center and serving a wonderful meal to celebrate this very special occasion.

This a beautiful example of the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi School!

It's Car Line Recruitment Time!
Are you a morning person? (it's okay if you're not); Do you have a great wave?  Would you like to see a lot of smiling faces in the morning?  If you said yes to any of these questions, then come join the SFAYL Carline Crew.

We need to have our Carline Crew members in place before the end of the year.  We have several outgoing 8th grade parents that need to have their spots filled. Come joining the Carline Crew -- you won't regret it!

It's only 1 day a week (unless you'd like to do more) from 7:35 am - 8:05 am.  Bring your friends, make it a class challenge and have your grade work the same day. We need 40 people to fill all the spots to make the carline work most efficiently.  Training is provided, and volunteering for carline will get you 10 steps closer to Heaven!!!

If you would like to help out next year, please contact Karen Carlos at  [email protected].
