Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Families,

"Education is not the filling of a vessel but the lighting of a fire."

I see this quote by William Butler Yeats every day.  It's on the wall above my desk. The transformative power of an effective teacher is something all of us have experienced and understand on a personal level.  I hope all of our students have memories of special teachers who made school exciting and interesting - someone who inspired, encouraged, and believed in us, someone who taught us to believe in ourselves. I know our teachers strive to be "that" teacher by enriching the lives of their students.

Last week the parents of St. Francis of Assisi School celebrated our teachers and staff for their critical role in educating and shaping our children.  The teachers and staff were treated like royalty all week, highlighted by messages of encouragement and thanks, beautiful flowers, special gifts, and of course, lots of great food. The outpouring of generosity was overwhelming.

I am grateful for St. Francis of Assisi School parents who recognize the great work of our teachers and staff. Thank you for recognizing what I see every day - teachers arriving early and staying late, planning, preparing, and meeting to address their student's educational needs, teachers who get to know their students while encouraging, supporting, and loving them, teachers who mold character by modeling Christian values.  We are truly blessed to have teachers who serve with selfless dedication.

I know I speak for the entire staff when I express my gratitude to all our families who shared their time and resources to support our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week as well as throughout the school year. From the flowers, special treats, gifts, breakfast and luncheon, you came together in a great show of support for our wonderful educators.  Thank you for your thoughtful and generous support.  A special thanks to Tracy Foye for coordinating a wonderful week of recognition.  The week was filled with big smiles and kind words of gratitude.  It was a warm reminder of appreciation for the partnership between school and home to educate, encourage, and inspire our children.

WOLF News - Student Reports
Student Council Elections 2017
Meet the Candidates
By: Mia F. and Mrs. Clewett

Sixteen St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School students are running for Student council positions this week. There are eight Student Government positions at our school.  Each position has two candidates running.  Every candidate on the ballot has passed several hurdles to get to this point.  First, they had to ask for two teacher recommendations, and fill out an application.  Next, they participated in a preliminary election in which the field was narrowed down.  After that, they created and hung posters around campus to promote themselves with the student body, and they wrote and practiced speeches.  This Friday, is the final election.  All candidates will present their speech to students in fourth through seventh grade and a vote will take place.

Recently WOLF News spoke to each candidate about a multitude of topics, including their platforms and why students should vote for them.

Read about each of the candidates here.

Key positions taking place early in the school year and requiring attention include: morning carline monitors, being a mentor family, Kona Ice helpers, Fall fundraiser and Fall Fest volunteers. Want to make an immediate and lasting impact here at SFA? We are looking for key people to help Chair and oversee the following essential programs: Carline, Spring and Fall Book Fair, Fall Cookie Dough and Yankee Candle Fundraiser. Have questions or want to discuss the opportunities in more detail, please reach out to Tammy Clarida for assistance.

Classroom related opportunities will become available when classes are assigned in August.  Every SFA family is required to complete twenty (20) Volunteer Service Hours each year.  Families log their hours in the   Sycamore Parent Portal as they are completed. Volunteer Service Hours began accumulating on  April 1 for the 2017 - 2018 school year.
It's Car Line Recruitment Time!
Are you a morning person? (it's okay if you're not); Do you have a great wave?  Would you like to see a lot of smiling faces in the morning?  If you said yes to any of these questions, then come join the SFAYL Carline Crew.

We need to have our Carline Crew members in place before the end of the year.  We have several outgoing 8th grade parents that need to have their spots filled. Come joining the Carline Crew -- you won't regret it!

It's only 1 day a week (unless you'd like to do more) from 7:35 am - 8:05 am.  Bring your friends, make it a class challenge and have your grade work the same day. We need 40 people to fill all the spots to make the carline work most efficiently.  Training is provided, and volunteering for carline will get you 10 steps closer to Heaven!!!

If you would like to help out next year, please contact our new Carline Chairperson, Susan Katsaros at [email protected].
