School Supplies for Marie Reed Community Center
School Supplies for Marie Reed Community Center:

Since 2004, Westmoreland has provided assistance to at-risk children through a partnership with the Marie Reed Community Learning Center, a public elementary school in the District with 90% of children living below the poverty line. Over the years, our congregation has providing tutors, books, clothing, furniture, music education, and food. They are a Westmoreland Social Justice grant recipient. Please bring new school supplies for collection during our Time for Children.
Right to Retirement Transit Action
Thursday, July 27, 11:00 am

WMATA’s plan calls for privatizing 10,000 good, middle class jobs. Recent WMATA history shows us that privatizing leads to near-poverty wages and no secure retirement for a workforce that is 95% African American. This is the new frontier of the Civil Rights Movement. Join AIM and the Amalgamated Transit Union to demand the protection of good jobs with pensions. Senator Madaleno is confirmed to come. Mr. Freddie Brown, who drove for MLK, will share his perspective on this modern civil rights fight.  For more information, contact Kayla McKinsey at 508-269-8406

The hearing will be held at:
Church of the Ascension
205 S Summit Ave, Gaithersburg

Two women are need as chaperones for the August 6-11 youth trip. The two chaperones from First Congregational UCC who had planned to go had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances. This will be a great experience. Contact Adam Barth if you would like to take part!
Cleveland Park Summer Social Documentary Film Series

Call Me Malcolm is an amazing story of the human spirit and the liberating struggle to realize and express one’s truest sense of self. This brave film offers us a glimpse into Malcolm’s life and into the lives of others who identify as transgender, showing how shame and fear can be overcome by grace, compassion and knowledge.
