Quote of the Week
"Jesus tapped me on the shoulder and said, Bob, why are you resisting me? I said, I'm not resisting you! He said, You gonna follow me? I said, I've never thought about that before! He said, When you're not following me, you're resisting me."

| A Note From Peru
Hola!
Much has happened from the time I last wrote. We're still alive and well, and God has continued to do amazing things. We all have nice tans (or burns, for some!) and lots of bug bites. We've been living in the small town of El Porvenir for one week now. The officers here are Captains Teodóro and Carla Walpa. They have four children, ages 12, 10, 8, and 5. They learned phrases in english just to share with us. We're having a great time staying with their family.
This week we are living next to a beautiful lagoon, surrounded by flowers and palm trees. It's one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. We work very hard during the day, so I cherish the moments I get to come and enjoy the scenery.
El Porvenir and the Salvation Army are woven together. In the early 90's, an earthquake leveled most of the buildings in the town. The Salvation Army came in to offer their help; they rebuilt many of the houses in town, and also the corps building. There is even a street named "Salvation Army". After more than 20 years, however, the people are starting to forget about the work we've done there. The captains have asked us to wear our uniforms everywhere we go. He wants people to recognize the Salvation Army and know that we are still actively working in the community.
The response from the people has been overwhelming. We held a festival, and the whole town seemed to show up! We even made the newspaper, and they inverviewed us for their local tv show. Many people showed up at the corps the following Sunday, and again throughout the week. We've been holding workshops, teaching dance, drama, timbrels, and piano. Needless to say, we are having so much fun doing God's work here. It's amazing.
All of the program leaders in El Cuerpo de El Porvenir are very young, ranging from 13-17. We've been meeting with them, trying to encourage them in their ministry and give them materials and ideas for their classes. My heart has been touched by the strong faith of the soldiers at this corps.
Our team will spend one more week in El Porvenir, and then we move on to Callao. The time is starting to go fast, and I can't believe we're almost half way done. Thank you for your continued prayers! Know that you are all in my prayers as well.
Blessings,
Christine | |

| Prayer Update
Sam Farrar, Dean Farrar's Uncle, has been on our Prayer List for some time now. He has not been well and this caused concern or both Dean & Siran. There has been a positive turn around recently and Siran wrote to Major Janet Ashcraft to tell her of this good news and Major asked me to share a portion of that note with you:
"Prayers from our corps family have helped our precious Uncle Sam conquer this latest battle. He's found his happy place again and is now quite determined to adjust to whatever life throws at him. What a miraculous turn around for an 84 year old man.
Thank you, thank you everyone."

Sunday's Schedule
Major Janet Ashcraft will bring preach this Sunday entitled "Fan or Follower? Knowledge of Him or Intimacy with Him" and will use Luke 7:36-50 as her scripture:
36 When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee's house and reclined at the table. 37 A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee's house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. 38 As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them.
39 When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is-that she is a sinner."
40 Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell you."
"Tell me, teacher," he said.
41 "Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[a] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?"
43 Simon replied, "I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven."
"You have judged correctly," Jesus said.
44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little."
48 Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven."
49 The other guests began to say among themselves, "Who is this who even forgives sins?"
50 Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."
SEE YOU SUNDAY! |
