Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep Your covenant.

Desert

First Sunday of Lent

February 22, 2015

Lent can be for us like Jesus' time in the desert.

This Sunday's Gospel is about Jesus' 40 days in the desert, when He was tempted by Satan. The Gospel ends with Jesus going to Galilee to proclaim the kingdom of God is at hand.

During the next six weeks, we will be tempted to disregard our Lenten resolutions. These temptations will be like Satan tempting Jesus. During the next six weeks, we will be surrounded by things that are like wild beasts-wanting to eat when we're fasting; wanting to gossip or skip Mass when we know we shouldn't; wanting to keep something for ourselves when we know to be generous. The end of Lent will be for us like Jesus going to Galilee to preach about the Kingdom of God. We will be ready to share the love of God with others.

Family Activity Idea

Read the supermarket ads with your kids so they can see how much food costs. Plan an inexpensive meal together and use the money you save to donate to charity, such as the St. Anne Community Outreach Center or your CRS Rice Bowl.
