CALENDAR UPDATES

First Principal Coffee -- 

Please join us for our first Principal Coffee of the year on Friday, September 25  at 9:00 a.m. in the Faculty Dining Room.  Principal Dr. Jamie Chisum will be on hand to answer your questions and brief us on the first few weeks of school.  Mike Reidy, Head of the Social Studies  Department will also be on hand to discuss Junior Thesis. This is a very informal meeting; come share what's on your mind!


SCHOOL COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE ELECTION

Each fall, parents elect representatives to the WHS School Council.  

School council is comprised of students, teachers, parents and community members who all work together with the Dr. Chisum to examine and make recommendations on school policies, as mandated by the state education department. School Council meetings are held monthly, generally on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 2:40 p.m. 

We have two parent slots open this year. If you would like to become a candidate, please contact PTSO Vice Presidents Wyndham Flaherty [email protected] and Michele de Oliveira.School [email protected].  Please provide a brief paragraph about yourself and why you'd like to serve on Student Council. 

Elections will be held at Back to School Night on October 8th.


VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR PUMPKIN CARVING

The Advisory Committee is looking to do pumpkin carving with Seniors andpumpkin painting with underclassmen on October 7th.  

We would love to have some parent volunteers to help run these events.  We are looking for 4 volunteers from 10:45 until 11:45 to help distribute pumpkins, monitor the carving, judge the results, and tidy up. Come be part of the fun!  Please contact Louisa Morrison at [email protected].



WEF ~ THE 26th ANNUAL WELLESLEY SPELLING BEE

Catch the Buzz!

On Thursday, November 5th,  7pm at the Sprague School Gym  o ur community adult spelling contest and fundraising event is  back for the 26th time! This high spirited community event is right around the corner! How to catch the buzz:
  • Support the Bee --  Click Here  to make a donation or sponsor a high school, middle school or community team. Many levels are available for sponsorship f rom $125 to $2500. The Bee is our biggest fundraiser of the year!  Any amount is appreciated.
  • Bee A Team  --  Click Here   to register a team of three spellers for $500.
    Who knows whom you may be spelling against that night? Last year 55 teams participated in the Bee! Deadline for registering a team is October 16.

WELLESLEY POPS

POPS (Parents of Performing Students) is looking for a few par ents to help out at the Instrument Lesson
Registration and Rental Night at Wellesley Middle School.   Parents are needed from 5 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, September 24th.  You do not need to have an instrument or vocal student to help out.  If you can help, please contact Sharon Lowe at [email protected].


WELLESLEY LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

Hosting Discussion on Town Government Changes

For a fresh look at the proposed changes to Wellesley town government , plan now to attend a public panel discussion, "Town Government:  Why Chang e," hosted by the Wellesley League of Women Voters, to be held on Wednesday, September 30, from 7-9pm in the Wakelin Room of the Wellesley Free Library.   The event will feature a presentation by Michael Ward, Director of Municipal Servic es for the Edward J.Collins, Jr. Center for Public Management at the  McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Glob al Studies of UMass/Boston.  Representatives from neighboring towns will also speak about how changes to their town governments have impacted their communities, and where potential challenges may arise.   Members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion. The program is free and open to the public.

Michael Ward works on a variety of municipal government projects, including municipal performance management efforts, organizational studies, research projects, regionalization and service-sharing work, and charter reform. He co-founded and currently manages the Collins Center's Government Analytics  Program and has led the New England StatNet program since it moved to the Center. Ward has worked for local government in Massachusetts and New Mexico, and holds a Master in Public Policy degree from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Amherst College.
